We recently connected with Krissy M. and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Krissy, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

I am a woman of security; I like to reassure myself that the table I am currently sitting at is set before preparing another. From the year 2016 until 2021 I was employed as a sales manager as well as jump starting my professional cosmetology career and producing Royal Knapps Loc studio. Within the second year of balancing both, is when I realized that being employed by others was not for me, so I decided to get out of my comfort zone and take the risk of becoming mainly focused on my career in cosmetology. At first it was a little nerve wrecking, in between balancing motherhood, home, and the salon. However, reality is amazing, as it shows you that once you take a risk, it isn’t about just taking that one risk, there will be smaller obstacles and risks you must maneuver thru, but always remember to stay focused and move gracefully.

Krissy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’m Krissy M. entrepreneur and owner of Royal Knapps Loc studio as well as the inventor of Knapp Khemistry Loc Moisturizer. I provide a variety of loc maintenance and spa services. In 2019 I launched my loc product brand Knapp Khemistry, this loc moisturizer provides instant moisture and rejuvenation to the scalp while revitalizing the locs as well. Knapp Khemitsry is hand-crafted with natural produce and minerals to insure healthy, long and luxurious locs and hair, which can be ordered through our website, www.RoyalKnapps.com. Consistency, self-discipline, and hard work along with faith has brought me so far within my professional career. Having loyal clients, new clients, family and friends on a daily, who give you motivation to thrive and push through the day, is one of my most prize possessions. I believe my ambition and drive sets me apart from others. Whatever your mind generates, and your voice speaks, can become reality, even though rainy days may weather, still, get out and dance in the storm and remember the sun is only a few clouds away.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

Understanding that the vision I have will not be seen or believed by everyone, and that is okay. The opinions of others simply do not matter. We tend to always be concerned with thoughts of “What will people think.” or “how would this make people feel?” In reality, the opinions of others won’t get you far at all. You’ll find yourself trying to accommodate their opinions with your plan in which isn’t meant for them to fully see or understand. When I first made the decision to pursue my passion in the cosmetology world, someone very close to me laughed and responded with ” You sound crazy”. Lesson learned. At that moment, I realized, it’s easier to show and tell rather than tell and show. Don’t talk about your passion, be about your passion. I’ve learned to stay tenacious, talk less, and produce more.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The journey of being a stylist is very rewarding in many different aspects. Being able to push myself to the limit, knowing that whatever I put my mind to, I can conquer is one of the most fulfilling rewards as a stylist. Being able to adapt and maneuver through whatever obstacle that maybe thrown my way, all while accommodating and giving my clients the most rejuvenating and royal experience, seeing them rock their crowns with style and grace, being able to say Krissy M. is my stylist, is a beautiful reward in itself for me.
