We recently connected with Krissy Love and have shared our conversation below.
Krissy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents recognized the innate and natural connection to music from birth. With this, everything was taught to me through rhythm and song. Getting older and verbally expressing my love for music and dance, purchases of CDs, cassette tapes, VHS videos, stereos, drum sets, keyboards, etc allowed me to connect with the innate talent of dance, writing music, singing/rapping. This all played a factor in my parents absolutely supporting not only what I wanted to do, but what they were able to see within me on their own. My mother is “corporate queen” while my father is an entrepreneur. This distinct difference in their employment allowed me to find a balance between never giving up on your dreams and reality.
Krissy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Krissy Love from Brooklyn New York Music is innately me. Dance was the first love, performing in day care, block parties, summer camps etc. Getting older, this was followed by wanting to create the music I danced to. Here is where I began to tap into producing. Creating beats with my drum set and keyboard. With both innate talents of dance and being able to create beats, I was training myself to hear music differently. In addition to listening to music with my Poppy [grandfather] and my dad, gave me an eclectic ear. With this, I developed a special approach to music when I started to write music yet never had the courage to perform as I assumed my voice was not a “singing” voice. Singing in the church choir assisted in the lane of singing. Jazz music as well as, specifically, Anita Baker, Toni Braxton and T-Boz “woke me up” in understanding being a singer does not mean one must be a soprano/hit certain high notes, This essentially gave me the push to pursue what already creatively was a part of Krissy.
I believer if I had the opportunity to attend LaGuardia High School of the Arts Everyone’s journey is their own. There was a time I did not move in my life as such. For example, social media became a poison as I believed because I was not where I saw others I was a failure. There were times I would say “I quit”. However, this is when I realized how much “music is me”. My day to day did not feel the same as if something was “missing” and it was. I was no longer creating. As soon as I started to create again, I legit felt a new burst of energy, alive so to speak. Here is where passion became purpose. Success is not financial and recognizing this on my own through “giving up” on my life line is absolutely what I am most proud of. This allowed for me to continue growing and going in the direction of my music goals. Not having to wait for another to inform me of something my mind body and spirit felt energetically will keep me in control of this dream and as cliche as it sounds, to never give up.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I absolutely believe in treating others how you want to be treated is key. Leading with love is just as important. Being an empath allows me to consider others’ thoughts, feelings and emotions, usually more than my own. However, through my creative processes I am able to be ME. Expressing now my own thoughts feelings and emotions without thinking of anyone else but myself. Escaping from a day to day that consist of the interaction of others and, again, considering said others; allowing myself to be selfish {kindly allow me to elaborate on this piece}. In addition, In addition, once these thoughts are shared through song and those I love dearly connect with what I created, to me, is 100% success in itself. & don’t let the children love my music, I’ve officially “made it” in my eyes. Being a creative allows for mistakes to be art, I fell in love with this piece of creating as a mistake in art is subjective. No one will ever know my favorite part of a song was an accident my engineer made and immediately advised said engineer to keep mistake. Being in 100% control of who you are, as music is me, is the reward.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Working when it does not feel like work is the primary goal. This then prevents stress which ultimately leads a happy and healthy life of adventure. My mission is to live a creative open and loving life I will create with music as music is my sanity. I’ve learned I am unable to live without creating. With this lesson my mission in creating is understood now its to consistently execute.
