We were lucky to catch up with Krishna Patel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Krishna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

Krishna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Krishna and I work in Social Media Marketing within the beauty industry! A little background on my self — After graduating FIDM, I took on many internships that either empowered my growth or taught me hard lessons along the way. Looking back, I’m grateful to have had those experiences because it led me to finding a career in the creative space.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Based on my experience, I think having a career in Social Media in general because it’s not a conventional career choice. There are a lot of different responsibilities that fall under its umbrella and there’s no simple answer for it either, so I understand why it can be confusing to someone not familiar. However, I think that the creator/influencer/social media career is way more popular now than it ever was before with TikTok changing the game as a major platform, empowering everyone to get creative or learn just about anything along the way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is being recognized for creating quality content. It’s such a huge compliment to me because I’ve taught myself everything I know, so it’s always a proud moment for me. Secondly, I feel like I’ve come so far as a South Asian woman within the beauty industry. There aren’t many of us out here, so to know that I’m still here pushing forward is enough for me! When I meet other south asian creators, influencers, or entrepreneurs within the industry, it feels especially rewarding to have made that connection. We grow up in a society that teaches you to compete with one another rather than empower one another. Fortunately, the women I’ve met along the way have only ever empowered me to keep going. Personally, I think there needs to be more of us out there challenging the status quo!
