We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Krishawna a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Krishawna , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve always had a gift, but how I learned to continually perfect my gift is from artist management and training through Savannah Street Music. Knowing what I do now, I feel if I was more intentional I could have accomplished even more however, I believe that all of my progress so far has been perfect timing according to God’s will for my life. The skills I feel most essential to the success I’ve gotten is making plans, setting goals and being committed to the completion of everything I set out to do. Additionally, connecting with like minded individuals who have experience in my field. Some things I equate to obstacles would be music business politics and a lack of resources at times, but I’ve never let obstacles stop my progression.
Krishawna , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Krishawna and I’m a Musician. I got into the industry by connecting with Ben Obi of Savannah Street Music. I learned discipline at a young age through teachings from church and life experiences. My passion for music developed when I was younger. My first inspiration was my Mother, Minister Brenda Williams. She is a phenomenal singer. She was my first introduction to singing with heart and soul. I impact live through my gift of song and dance. This is the service I provide to the world. I’ve been blessed to entertain by sharing lyrical content from my heart. Uplifting people musically is a joy to me and healing for any listener. I feel like what sets me apart is my mindset. I’m most proud that I can live positively and show a great example of what it’s like to succeed for my sons who are my greatest accomplishment in life. What I’d like to be known for is my faith and my ability to reach people through my art of music. I believe I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and nothing is impossible with God on my side.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist/creative is the freedom to be your true self, share what’s in your heart and in turn encourage a multitude of people along the way.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I feel society can best support artists/creatives by showing up, spreading the word, networking, giving resources, working together and providing opportunities to continually share the artists gifts and talents.
