We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kris Tash. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kris below.
Alright, Kris thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Just played Hamlet in Hamlet on Melrose at Zephyr Theatre, February 2024 for 12 shows. This was the accumulation of about 6+ years since my first theatre class.
I came in as a supporting role, but asked to be understudy for Hamlet, and when complications with the original lead arose, I was given the go. In about 6-8 weeks I tackled about 3 monologues a week plus my run throughs with cast for the other scenes.
I had a feeling I could do it, but there’s a big difference in me after actually doing so, in the fashion I desired. I did it my way, with respect to the text, and there is proof on youtube, the full 3 hour play: Hamlet – Kris Tash (www.jawhoney.tv).
The toughest part now is knowing how and when I will have the opportunity to be just as challenged in my craft.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
It all started with the simple goal of facing stage freight, in public speaking opportunities in general. After working in multiple fields that did not suit my spirit, I finally decided to take a class I knew would not be easy for me: Musical Theatre. This is when I learned, the best things aren’t easy, but they’re worth it.
This pursuit was sparked by a near fatal injury I had, where I broke my jaw, and had it wired shut to heal for about 2 months. I did a lot of thinking by my lonesome as you’d imagine, even started a business, but by the end of that year, I knew something was missing and I had to go to it. Something I should have done a decade or two before, but there was no better time.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
If you have artist friends, who you believe in, sometimes they have no way to get payed for their art they provide freely, such as streaming music, youtube videos, etc.: just donate anything if you want.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
Even if you hit it big, it doesn’t on its own fill the spirit. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, if he loses his soul.
