We were lucky to catch up with Kris Shelby recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kris, appreciate you joining us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?

So when your passionate about your craft your creativity your usually not thinking about money because you love the feeling of doing what you love so for me I’ve always invested my own money into my craft especially in the beginning from taking chances doing free jobs paying for my own flights to take a opportunity and assist someone that when I got my first opportunity to style a big client about 10 years ago it was Yung Joc and at that time he was big on the hit show love and HipHop and the network asked me what budget I needed and what was my fee I had no clue lol nobody never told me what to charge so I remember one night just googling how much stylist charger per hour or by gig and me figuring out my fees and since then every year I go up 10 percent I mean luxury brands do it so you gotta know your worth and when your good make sure to get compensated for it

Hey you guys I’m Kris Shelby Celebrity wardrobe Stylist/image consultant and entrepreneur I’m from New Orleans and now living in Atlanta,Ga. I’ve been styling now for about 12 years yes I’m getting up there lol I’ve worked for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton,Saks Fifth Avenue ,Ralph Lauren Polo and all three of those company’s helped me become the entrepreneur stylist that I am today. My Stylist journey started years ago when I was doing Wardrobe for Tyler Perry studios for about 3 years and my love for styling really blossomed and with my faith and love for Jesus Christ my Lord and savior I decided to jump out there as a entrepreneur and work myself . My break through in the HipHop industry took off when a good friend of mines Offset from the Mega Group The Migos asked me to style him and group in there multi platinum hit “ Bad N Boujee “ and YFN Lucci Multi Platinum Hit “ Everyday We Lit “ so thing really started to take off but I knew I was missing something I needed a look for myself something that was going to make me stand out in the industry and my beautiful Mother Faye Shelby and sister Kourtney came up with the Idea of me dying my beard Bright Green and from there everyone started to know me as Kris with the green beard . Years later I was blessed to get a opportunity to work with one of the biggest rappers in the game Jeezy who I currently personal style and do image consulting for and had the blessings of styling him for his amazing wedding with wife Jeannie Mai when I also got my first big placing in Vogue Magazine and People Magazine . Even though I’ve been in the game for a minute now I’m still humble still a student and still hungry and still the same Kris ,I love using my clients as my canvases and creating through them allowing them to bloom into the best person they are ,I’m here to help you find your vibe and

What do you find most rewarding about being creative?

It’s a feeling, you know like as a kid when you want to play basket ball you love basket ball so being out there on the court practicing you can do it all day long because you love it and it makes you happy, well that’s how I feel everyday I wake up ,being able to wake up everyday and do what you love to me is the Key to life ,it keeps you youthful, allows you to age backwards I feel , Love is the most beautiful passion and creativity is Love

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

My goal is to help others ,help kids ,help other creatives and artist using my platform, I want to have my own non profit and help young men dress for success and teach them to properly get ready for a job interview or first date etc and also to take care of my family and friends that’s the ultimate goal for me
