e excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kris LaMarr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kris below.
Kris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I wish i started it sooner, but I do wish I hadn’t taken those years away from music. Although I used that time to work on myself mentally & emotionally, I really regret not continuing my music career in that time frame as well and finding some balance. I feel as if I lost a good amount of momentum in that timeframe from my lack of consistency. I’ve even spoken with my contemporaries who are further than me and have told me I should be where they’re at. As much as it hurts to acknowledge these things I’ve had to take accountability for my lack of success. I took music seriously when I was picked up on the Believe in Fate tour with Mike Fate as 2020 began which put me in an interesting position because shortly after the tour, covid hit and that created a big hurdle for not only me but everyone else. I took the next year doing shows and working on my debut album “AutoBops” that I dropped in fall 2021—since then I’ve been working overtime with putting out music, visuals, doing shows, collaborating, walking in fashion shows and networking to make up for the lost time. And yes, at times I definitely look back and think about what I could’ve done differently but that’s not going to help me now, I have to utilize the present moment to get back on whatever timeline that the version of myself making the right choices is in.

Kris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who haven’t heard of me, my name is Kris LaMarr and I am a music artist. Much of my discography consists of cars and being on the road, I try to take things a bit deeper. I see life as a road where you can never see what’s up ahead, there is so much uncertainty and the only clear view you really ever get is in your rear view. I take this perspective with me and my music as I put my listeners in the passenger on my path to self-discovery. The main reason for getting into music was to have another outlet to express myself, as it’s the value I hold most high, Outside of music I spend much of my time in the fashion industry as both a model and a fashion stylist. the more I think about it I’ve always been into fashion since I was a kid, my father had a big influence on my sense of fashion and I eventually became accustomed to making my own unique styles with clothing I’ve collected traveling the country. But what really got me into the fashion industry was the fact that people literally kept asking to buy the clothes off my back wherever I went, it happened so often I decided to open a vintage retail pop-up shop called “Kristos Kloset” a year ago and it gained enough traction to have a debut in a fashion show by Top Shelf where I was given a handful of models to style, and the turnout was spectacular. Since then I’ve been invited to numerous fashion shows as a stylist and model. Other than music and fashion I’ve taken a dive into video directing this year and I have already directed 4 videos. Out of everything that I’ve accomplished so far I would have to say my debut album “AutoBops” is probably the thing that I am most proud of. The amount of time I took to craft the world of the album from the production to the branding. I see it as the catalyst for the person that I am today and the beginning of my musical journey.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Honestly, the most rewarding thing has been implying seeing my ideas come to life. I’ve always had these other worlds in my head as a kid and it’s such a great feeling to see these ideas come to fruition. aside from that seeing how the music connects to the people, the fact that people can relate makes me feel less alone on my journey. and lastly hearing the feedback is always a great feeling I’m a big perfectionist and I’m always looking for ways to improve.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Surprisingly my ultimate goal isn’t music, or fashion these are just platforms I wish to use to spread my overall message which is freedom of expression through emotional growth. I want to have enough influence to create slight reforms in society. I imagine a world where the youth are taught how to manage and express themselves in healthy manners and having access to the outlets to do so. If we can inspire a generation to take their emotional health seriously so they’re not held back from really connecting with themselves and the world. My goal is to inspire people with my self-expression through every creative medium I can.
