Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kris Kandy . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kris , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes , I make a living off my creative projects. I don’t suggest anyone doing what I did in the beginning if you’re afraid of BIG RISKS. I took my last paycheck and bought shoe inventory and sold shoes out the trunk of my car, before I turned things into a actual business. I just kept flipping my profits. Yes it’s hardships and sacrifices but it’s impossible to fail at anything when you solely put your all into it and remain consistent. A few things that could have sped u my process if I known back then and along the beginning is, how Important personal credit is and how much the lack of healthy eating can affect your performance and focus to accomplish goals. Your personal life is a reflection of your business life in many ways. Also learning to listen and allow your inner self to guide you, it always have the correct answers. And knowing your THOUGHTS become your ACTIONS and your ACTIONS is what creates your REALITY!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My Journey started in 2015 from my own addiction for Shoes and Fashion! I Literally started from the trunk of my car, before i became popular on social media. My Supplier was local and every weekend I would fill my truck and back seat with shoes and set up shop on busy traffic corners in Houston Tx. Soon I was able to replace my current 9-5 job as a Dental Assistant and become a full time Boutique Online where I sold clothes and shoes! In 2018 I began doing my own Nails when my sales was slow and this is when I fell in love with the ART OF NAILS! I became a Licensed Nail Technician servicing clients as well while working my online store. In 2020 I opened my first shoe store and Nail Tech Academy to help train upcoming nail technicians along their journey and teach others how to create art designs such as abstract art, 3D art and drawing cartoon characters! My Nail Business took off quickly and expanding with opportunities for me to travel to other cities training nail techs, therefore in 2021 I closed my shoe store. In 2023 is when I felt a void of negligence to one of the things I loved most and that’s fashion. At this moment I decided to stop servicing clients, minimize teaching so many classes and give my inner self the opportunity to do ALL THE THINGS I LOVE DOING. I knew I had to figure out a way I could combine the my love for Fashion and Art… and I did! Which you will learn more about throughout this interview.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I Am Kris Kandy… this name was given to me by my oldest sister, which Kris is from Kristina and Kandy describes my personality “sweet like candy”. I say this to say, I built my social media platforms by always simply being who I am! I’m a very big hearted person who not only find ways to elevate myself but others too. My journey never been all about me. I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not, I don’t duplicate what I see on social media. I’m a human like everyone else trying to figure out this thing called life. The most important thing you can do in life is to always remain AUTHENTIC TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS on and off social media.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Along your journey you will truly learn who you are and who you are not. I went from thinking I wanted to be a business owner to recently realizing I just want to create through different forms of art and fashion. Knowing that you don’t have to only choose one thing thing and one path in life. As humans we have multiple talents, desires and gifts we were born with and it’s up to you to live through them all! Life is a journey not a destination, the only part that matters is the presence.
