Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kris Hunsaker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kris thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
We make every experience about the clients we have at the moment. Our entire model is to cater specifically to each set of clients. When it’s their turn it’s theirs only. Most resorts/vacations depend on volume. How many can we run through at the same time. We do it different. Very exclusive, we make each guest the only guest.
Kris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always travel for a living. Doing so I see so many people struggle while trying to enjoy a vacation. Double booked reservations, packing and unpacking, hidden fees, underwhelming free breakfast, all inclusive that includes very little, every one trying to take the hard earned money along the way, gimmick after gimmick, long lines, tired children, constant work. Being a grown up makes vacation more stressful and Tiering then just staying home. I thought, “We can do better,” and then we did!
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
My clientele is a hard to reach demographic. It’s not like I can call Tom Brady and ask if he wants to go camping. So I took a chance. I called my competitors. Knowing they had all the resources to cut me out of my own idea. I sold them on the fact that I had a vision. Despite a huge demand no one could figure out the answer. I saw a clear path. Instead of stealing my idea one resort embraced us. The Goldener Hirsch in Deer Valley. Included us as an equal took us under there wing and gave us all the support this mom and pap needed. They have used there massive marketing networks to show case us as an experience they offer. We now have the eyes of our clients. Our biggest win to date!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Drive and passion!
I had to learn patience. I had to learn that no matter how much someone loved the idea and climbed on board and agreed to make this dream come true. It isn’t their dream! They aren’t going to work 32 hours a day. 9 days a week and 100 weeks a year. Especially not for free. I had to stop pushing and driving so hard. Beating my head against the wall. I had to trust that our best interest was at heart. I had to appreciate what everyone gave. I had to dial down my crazy! I had to learn how to stop, or at least let others stop.
