We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kris Bryant a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kris , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
I started a Patreon page to give extra writing and video content for patrons and all 100% of the pledges go to animal shelters around the world. Every month a patron picks an organization, we review their wish list, and send the food and supplies to the patron so they can make the donation. It gets everyone involved and is very successful.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I write sapphic romance books. Queer representation is so important. I want to write books where people could find themselves on the pages. I grew up reading hetero love stories and the year I found queer books, I decided to write one and haven’t looked back. My books have reached people all over the world and I love it when readers send me emails about how queer books saved them or how it was refreshing to see lesbians, bisexuals, pansexuals, nonbinary characters in books with leading roles.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media has changed the world (mostly for the good, but obviously it can be problematic at times).. Everyone is easily accessible now. It’s important to keep chirping about queer books and where people can find them. I post as much as I can about me as a queer writer, an animal lover, queer events I attend, and anything interesting. It allows readers to get to know you on a different level that, prior to social media, wasn’t obtainable. It’s important to carve aside time every day to market yourself on all platforms. It’s free advertising! Everyone should be promoting themselves on social media.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My books aren’t all best-sellers. I don’t let sales get me down. I might have a book that’s extremely popular and sells well, but the next one might just have a lukewarm reception. I have to trust myself, my readers, and keep moving forward. I never stop. I have a platform at this very moment and I’m going to use it to tell our stories.
