We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kreskin J. Torres a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kreskin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
My mission was to experience America and I wanted to spend time learning about the cultures and communities around the country. One night I sat in my car at BWI Airport staring at the dashboard and said to myself, I can use Uber/ Lyft to journey across the country and that’s how my niche began. I thought that is would be a great way to spend time with locals in my vehicle and I would also receive the best recommendations for food and history while interacting with each person. The creative part would be maintaining a steady income while traveling.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
The Rideshare Foodie is a brand that focuses on showcasing food and culture. I enjoy the company of locals and interacting with communities. I’m peaking an interest in their history and upbringing which I believe is what sets me apart from others. I can have a conversation with a local at a bar while exchanging ideas and opinions over a hot meal. This allows me to learn about staple dishes and the history in small towns and cities first hand. I’m proud to be in a country where I’m welcomed be so many people that barely know me but want me to have the best experience possible. My work is about bringing people together and I find food can be a common ground.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
My goal has always been to experience as much as I can and to create ways to share it with everyone. I’m looking forward to hosting national food events for people to learn more about the country and the contributions of people through food.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
This lifestyle is not for everyone as you would need to have determination and courage. Six years of driving and four of those were sleeping out of my Honda Accord Sedan with 365,000 miles on it. Finding parking lots and then showering at a planet fitness.
