We were lucky to catch up with Kourtney Powell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kourtney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
This idea all started after Kourtney went through a divorce and was left to be a single mom of three.
You know, sometimes life gets so dark…
…that you can’t imagine you’ll ever see a ray of light again – let alone shine your own.
And well, that’s how things were for Kourtney just a few years ago.
Dark. Chaotic. Uncertain.
At merely 29 years of age, Kourtney went through a divorce…
And overnight, became a single mom of 3.
Needless to say, the chaos of being a single mother was emotionally and physically draining…
“I felt so disempowered…so small. It was like being told – despite everything I had worked hard to accomplish, everything I tried to become: Who I was being was NOT enough. I know now that that idea wasn’t true. But that’s how it feels in the moment.”
Kourtney went on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth…
But thankfully she wasn’t alone…
At every step of the way, she had the support and companionship of Skye – her best friend of 19 years.
Skye was a young mom of two, and in the process of leaving the corporate world.
“I always hopped around jobs looking for the right thing to fill my cup. But it never came. So I wanted to start living according to my own rules – not somebody else’s.”
Since both of us were in this space of transformation, we were there for each other every day. It was a time period of building each other up, regaining our confidence, and feeling capable, beautiful, and successful again.
And in that space, we realized something powerful:
The clothing we choose to wear is more than just a “style”…
What you wear is a form of self-empowerment.
After all, how you dress and present yourself is a reflection of your mindset. It affects how you feel about yourself. And it affects how other people see you.
(All women deserve to feel confident and beautiful…and for the rest of the world to see them that way.)
That’s when we knew what we had to do:
We decided to take matters into our own hands…
We had to create clothing of our own :)
But we wanted something more than the typical “cute” stuff that other companies were making…
We wanted clothing that spread a message.
Clothing that brings sunshine into someone’s darkest days…
That makes a woman go from not confident…to oozing confidence.
Something that helps other women feel empowered, inspired, confident…
…and have a sh*tload of fun along the way.
Spreading positivity and making an impact on this world is what we are here to do.
So we created our first batch of fun, unique designs…
And WKNDchasers was born!
We’re proud to say: WKND Chasers is more than just a women’s clothing brand…
It’s a movement. A mindset. A community.
Our mission is to help women to feel confident and stylish – to wear what they want.
Everyday can (and should) feel like a weekend…
And you (yes you reading this) were BORN to own your magic.
Your style is a statement.
Be bold. Be loud. Be proud.
Be you.
Thank you for hearing our story.

Kourtney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always been about fashion, and beauty. So I wanted to create a space where women could come to feel inspired but also a space for connection and depth. Our clothing is bright and bold. We like to call it “dopamine dressing” something that is going to put a smile on people’s faces and leave you feeling happy and confident. My best friend Skye was down for the journey so when I called here she didn’t hesistate for one second she was down for the ride and all in to start an ecommerce business.
Two women that knew nothing about ecommerce have turned it into a 7 figure business. We went from running it out of Kourtney’s basement to now how our own warehouse space for inventory and content.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Transitioning from boutique buying to designing our very first custom piece—a denim hoodie—was both exciting and eye-opening. After two rounds of samples, we finally landed on a fit and style we loved and placed our first bulk order of 300+ hoodies. But when production arrived, the sizing was completely off. We had our moment of panic (naturally), then got to work. We negotiated with the factory, successfully cutting the invoice in half, and decided to move forward by disclosing the sizing issue and recommending customers size up. While the size smalls were tighter than expected and didn’t sell through, we learned so much about fit, communication, and resilience in the process. This hoodie will always be a reminder of where our design journey truly began.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Ultimately it comes down to consistency. Show up, and share the process. People love connection and want to feel like they are a part of building something. We are big on community and connection. Without our audience we wouldn’t be here so we are very grateful for them. We will do gifts for top customers, give away gift cards to people engaging on our social media. Sometimes we will post a product for FREE and the first handful of people get an item for free.
