We were lucky to catch up with Kourtney Kalahar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kourtney , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
KKActive wasn’t created in a moment of inspiration, it was born out of survival. At the time, my life felt like it was falling apart from every angle. I was a brand new mom dealing with postpartum, isolated from my support system, and navigating a dying father and an unraveling relationship almost entirely on my own. Every day felt heavier than the last.
There were nights when I’d sit alone in the bathroom, staring at the wall, wondering how I would make it through another day. I felt invisible, unheard, unseen, and disconnected from everything that once gave me joy. But somewhere in that darkness, something inside me refused to give up. That small spark… the same one that kept me getting out of bed when I didn’t want to, eventually became KKActive.
When I first imagined the brand, it wasn’t about leggings or matching sets. It was about strength. I wanted to build something that reminded women, and myself, that even when life breaks you down, you can rebuild stronger. I wanted every piece to represent resilience, confidence, and self-worth, the very things I had to fight to reclaim.
I remember thinking, if I can turn this pain into purpose, maybe I can help other women do the same. I wanted women to feel supported, beautiful, and capable, not just in their clothes, but in their skin. KKActive became a reflection of that healing journey, a place where strength meets softness, where showing up for yourself isn’t about perfection, but about power.
This wasn’t just a business idea. It was therapy. It was transformation. It was me taking back control of my life after a time when everything felt uncertain. And every woman who wears KKActive carries a little piece of that story. The reminder that you can rebuild from anything, and do it with style, grace, and grit.

Kourtney , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Kourtney, the founder of KKActive, a women’s activewear brand designed for real women in every stage of life. I wear a lot of hats… mom, entrepreneur, coach, and creative, but at my core, I’m someone who’s passionate about helping women feel confident, strong, and beautiful in their own skin and remind them that life isn’t always perfect and we are all in this together.
My journey into this space wasn’t a business plan on paper — it was born from survival and healing. During one of the most challenging seasons of my life — pregnancy, the loss of my father, and the unraveling of a relationship — I turned as I always had to movement and self-care as my therapy. Fitness became the one thing that reminded me of my strength when everything else felt out of control.
But every time I got dressed for a workout, I felt frustrated by what I saw. Most activewear brands were either overpriced, uncomfortable, or didn’t represent real women like me. women juggling motherhood, careers, emotions, and healing. That’s when the idea for KKActive came to life. I wanted to create a line that embodied confidence and resilience, with pieces that not only looked great but felt empowering to wear.
At KKActive, we focus on creating high-quality, affordable, and functional activewear that supports women no matter where they are — in the gym, running errands, or simply showing up for themselves. Every piece is designed to move with you and remind you that strength doesn’t have to look perfect.
What sets us apart is our why. KKActive isn’t just about clothing — it’s about connection. It’s about reminding women that even in their hardest seasons, they’re not alone. The brand is built on community, self-love, and the belief that you can rebuild from anything with style, grace, and grit.
I’m most proud of the stories I hear from women who wear KKActive — the mom finding her confidence again, the woman stepping back into the gym after years away, or the one simply learning to love her body as it is. Those moments remind me why I started.
KKActive began as a personal healing journey, but it’s become so much more — a movement of women who show up, rise up, and never stop believing in their strength.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media didn’t happen overnight. it came from showing up consistently, even when things felt messy or imperfect. When I first started sharing online, it wasn’t with a strategy or a big vision in mind. I was simply being honest. I shared my journey. the highs, the heartbreaks, the healing, and the hustle. And people connected with that.
I think what drew people in was the realness. So much of social media can feel filtered or unattainable, and I wanted to create a space that felt like the opposite. where women could see themselves, not just the highlight reel. Whether it was balancing motherhood, building businesses, or prioritizing health, I’ve always tried to keep my content rooted in honesty and relatability.
As my platforms grew, I realized that connection is more powerful than perfection. I started using my pages not just to share products or updates, but to build community. I talked about mindset, self-worth, and starting over — because I know firsthand how important it is to feel seen and supported.
My advice for anyone just starting out is simple:
Be authentic. Don’t try to copy what others are doing — people are drawn to genuine energy.
Be consistent. You don’t need to post every day, but show up regularly and with purpose.
Serve before you sell. Focus on adding value — educate, inspire, or uplift — and the growth will come naturally.
Don’t chase numbers. Chase connection. A smaller, loyal community that trusts you will always be more powerful than a large one that doesn’t.
Social media has become more than just a platform for me — it’s been a bridge to building relationships, sharing stories, and empowering women through every chapter of their journey. And that’s something I’ll never take for granted.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had to pivot more than once, but the biggest one came when life forced me to start over, personally and professionally. I went from being in a relationship, planning for stability and partnership, to standing alone as a new mom, scared, and trying to figure out how to rebuild everything from scratch. It wasn’t a graceful pivot; it was survival.
That chapter changed everything for me. I realized I could either let my circumstances define me or use them as fuel to create something meaningful. I had to reimagine what my future looked like. not just as a mother, but as a woman who refused to be broken by her circumstances.
That pivot taught me that the most powerful transformations come from the moments you least expect the ones that break you open and force you to rebuild differently. It showed me that even when life doesn’t go according to plan, you can still create something beautiful out of the chaos.
Now, I look at every pivot as a redirection not an ending. Sometimes the plan has to fall apart for the purpose to fall into place.
