We recently connected with Kourtney Daniel-Robinson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kourtney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
A few weeks after launching Kourtsports a major department store reached out to me about potentially having Kourtsports pieces in the store. We spoke via video chat and there were three buyers asking questions about my company. I was grateful for the opportunity chatting about the brand with a company that I use to work for. I dreamed about my business being featured in a department store. Even though my brand was not featured due to needing enough inventory, I felt like I already won because a huge company noticed a small business.

Kourtney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kourtney Daniel-Robinson and I am a business owner and flight attendant. In 2020, when there was a lot of uncertainty I began to workout everyday. I participated in a 100 mile challenge which gave me the spark to start Kourtsports. I wanted to create something that would help people stay hopeful during uncertainty by creating a active wear business. I began to create cool incentives to keep customers staying active and giving away products for their perseverance. I am most proud about customers sending me messages about how confident they are while working out . The brand was created to be a light for hope and continuing to focus on things that can be controlled.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Before I started my business and became a flight attendant, I was in corporate america for 3 years. Before taking the leap of faith of pivoting to become a flght attendant I was uncertain about the direction. The industry I was moving towards was something that i’ve never been apart of before. I had to decide if I wanted to stay comfortable where I was or to go in a direction that would make me uncomfortable for growth. I took the opportunity to change careers in 2020, however; I only flew for 4 months due to being furloughed from flying. In that moment, I started to think whether I should have left my corporate job because of how things went with the airline industry. I had to pivot twice by starting a business during that season of being without a job. The journey was tough in the beginning but it made me more thankful because things can be taken away from you at anytime. Its important to cherish the people and things that make you happy in your life.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I began to workout during Covid I wanted other people to experience the benefits of taking care of yourself. Since I participated in running challenges I then began to create challenges to engage potential customers. I think it’s very important to bring customers on a journey with you so that they can feel apart of something bigger than themselves, which is a healthy lifestyle. This was a great way to build an audience because it showed a story about people wanting to be better than who they were yesterday. The advice I would giving others is to stay consistent on social media and always find unique ways to engage potential and current customers.
