We were lucky to catch up with Kourtne Gissentanner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kourtne, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned the craft of acting through study of my favorite sitcom’s, experience, and a deep love for storytelling. Watching great performances, taking classes, and working with coaches helps me to refine my skills, but real-life experiences and being on set have been my greatest teachers. Looking back, I would have started earlier, taken more risks, and networked aggressively to speed up my journey. The most essential skills have been discipline, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and confidence especially as both an actress, music artist and CEO. Balancing my business, personal life, and artistic growth was a challenge, but I’ve learned that obstacles are just stepping stones. Now, I’m fully embracing my artistry and ready for every opportunity that comes my way.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Kourtne GissenTanner a mother of four, businesswoman, rapper and actress stepping fully into my artistry. Acting has always been a passion of mine, but in 2024, I made the intentional decision to pursue it seriously. At my vision board party, I declared that I would become a highly sought-after actress, and from that moment, I put in the work. I networked, met industry professionals, and when an acting opportunity came up, I applied and landed the starring role. The writer even told me I had that “je ne sais quoi” for acting, which confirmed I was on the right path.
Beyond acting, I’m also an entrepreneur. Through my company, Chosen Tax Professionals, I help clients navigate financial success, and I’m involved in real estate, making sure people maximize their investments. What sets me apart is my determination, authenticity, and ability to balance multiple roles while staying true to my purpose.
I’m most proud of taking action on my dreams and showing my children that anything is possible with faith and hard work. Whether in business or entertainment, I want people to know that I bring passion, excellence, and a relentless drive to everything I do. My journey is just beginning, and I’m excited for what’s next!
Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve pivoted so many times in my career and life, and each shift has only made me stronger. I’ve faced heartbreak, challenges in relationships, and the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, but through it all, I’ve kept pushing forward. The opportunity for acting opened up at just the right time, and I knew I had to go for it. This wasn’t just about chasing a dream it was about proving to myself, my kids, and the people who love and believe in me that I can do anything I set my mind to. Acting is more than just a new chapter; it’s a calling, and I’m giving it my all. Every pivot has led me here, and I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Last year, I made a commitment to personal development, and it completely changed my mindset and approach to life. I started listening to people like Jim Rohn, John C. Maxwell, Sarah Jakes, and Dolores Cannon, and their wisdom helped me break free from a lack mindset. I learned that if I change my mind, have faith, and truly believe in myself, anything is possible. Personal development became a daily practice for me, shaping how I manage my businesses, pursue acting, and navigate life’s challenges. It’s been a game-changer, and I’m so grateful I tapped into it.
