We recently connected with Kouka Man and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kouka, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path was around 12, or 13 years old. My older cousin was in a band with his friends and started to show me his equipment, keyboards, microphones, and other studio equipment which they were using to make their own demos. This inspired me to create my own music and start writing my own lyrics. Once I started, I could not stop. More than 20 years later, I’m still pursuing that dream.

Kouka, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been writing music since an adolescent. I have various projects available on streaming platforms. I got into hip-hop at an early age from my parents. My dad, specifically, would play me all kinds of different music which sparked an interest in me at an early age.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is inspiring others to do what it is in their heart to do. Also, the freedom that comes from creativity is unmatched.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best thing that people can do to support artists is purchase merchandise, tickets to shows, other products sold directly from the artist to the consumer. This ensures the right people receive the benefits from exhibiting or creating their art.
