We were lucky to catch up with Korynne Mykal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Korynne , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I have operated my own social media the entirety of my business. Managing social media is a time consuming job and it can become overwhelming while running my brand, but to grow, you must have a consistent content schedule to gain more followers, keep engaging customers, increase website traffic, and improve follower engagement. In the future, I would love to hire a team to operate my social media and hire content creators who create weekly content for my brand. Having a team will allow my brand to reach its full potential while keeping a consistent, creative, and collaborative work environment. Social media is the new marketing, so taking advantage of the free marketing and continuously implementing trends, creative photo shoots, capturing content, memorable packaging, and custom pieces will continue to draw in my customers.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Korynne Mykal and I am the CEO of my streetwear clothing line named KMYKAL. I am currently getting my MBA in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. I got into the fashion industry due to my love of clothing. Ever since I was a little girl my parents made me take pride in my appearance, so I began growing a love for making myself and others feel good about themselves. I started my brand in 2019 during my sophomore year in college. When I first started, I made different style of hoodies, but made sure to keep some simplicity. After receiving my first couple of orders, I knew I wanted to get more creative with my gear, so I decided to let my creative juices flow and began to create some of my favorite pieces…. my Rebirth hoodies, KM KAMO, Black Girl Anime tees, Rated K tees and so on. I am most proud of my growth and my confidence within my brand that has grown overtime. The main things I would like potential customers/followers to know about my brand is that I work 25/8 to create fire pieces you didn’t know you needed and to stay tuned because my brand will branch behind clothing.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
My favorite marketing story begins with my Rebirth hoodies. Before creating the hoodies, I was in a slow period for sales and was feeling stuck. I decided to take a creative risk and create a product I have not seen before. The hoodie consists on rhinestone angels wings, rhinestone butterflies, and rhinestone hoodie strings. I used the pain I was experiencing in my own life as the deeper meaning of my Rebirth release. This hoodie was the start to the ‘rebirth’ of myself and my brand. I created a strategic roll out plan to increase sales and engage followers. I decided to plan a photo shoot weeks prior and roll out photos until the official drop on September 5th, my birthday. I instantly saw a positive reaction from my followers, an massive increase in sales, and a spike in overall business growth. Taking strategic risks is what helped grow my brand.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with customers by interacting with them on social media, sending custom discount codes, doing giveaways, offering custom products, and always giving my customers the voice to be able to express their wants and needs! My brand is highly customer oriented, so I want to make sure that I am supplying them with the products they desire and fulfilling their consumer needs.
