Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Korisha Wilks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Korisha, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
As a therapeutic release, I found comfort in creating a pearl ornament. Having to deal with the stressors and triggers of Covid, I wanted to find an outlet that brought nostalgia. My mom was a huge Christmas fanatic and it was something that brought joy to others. I started gaining recognition when visitors would stop by and started asking me to make them an ornament. That’s when the business truly began and it was such an excitement to create an item clients could continually use for a lifetime!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Korisha, creator and designer of Kri’s Kreations. I started my brand by a simple question of Korisha, do you think you can create a pearl ornament? Thinking of a design, I finally created a classic pearl ornament that can be interchanged in various colors or what suits the client. I then started creating Christmas inspired wreaths, table runners, open faced angel snow globes, the lady Christmas tree dress, and have started decorating homes and Christmas tree installations. What makes my clients happy and satisfied is that I’m completely open to their vision and make their vision come to light. My heart is full when observing the twinkle in my clients eyes or the tears of joy when I have completed my job. I’m here for my client and making magic happen. The only request I have when i come to design is where’s the Christmas music? I want to set an ambiance where the client is set in a mood of the Christmas spirit! My proudest moment was being selected to design the city of Memphis Electric company’ building. It was fun to bring my ideas to light. The clients were truly happy! The new chapter of my craft has gone from local designing to traveling! As I embark on new adventures, my catalog has increased tremendously, my creativity has impressed a multitude of cultures.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The dedication I have shown has brought reoccurring clients, I had an opportunity to show my dedication to a specific client that requested one type of ornament, however when she received them she changed her mind and asked for her order to altered, causing me to expedite a shipment of pearls to come in. I had closed down my business for the remaining of the season, but ensured I completed the altered order and had shipped them out so she could have them for Christmas. The client emailed me to say I made her Christmas come true because the ornaments made her tree come alive. She didn’t receive an extra charge for her alteration because that’s what Christmas is all about! It’s better to give than to receive!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Since I’m a Christmas fanatic, I targeted people like myself via Tic Tok, Instagram, and Facebook. I network with others that have a huge Christmas or holiday spirit, that has allowed my business to flourish. I am constantly uploading videos of my products, installations, and designs. I became a vendor at the Historic Women’s Exchange of Memphis and quickly attracted the eye of several influencers around Tennessee.
