Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kori Borneman and Audrey Bradham. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kori and Audrey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
We’ll never forget the moment the idea of Opal was born—though back then, it didn’t have a name, a logo, or even a business plan. Just two best friends, a couple of dogs, some morning coffee, and a conversation that would change everything.
It was our 33rd birthday (yes, we share the same one!), and Audrey was visiting Kori in Johns Island. We were sitting outside, letting the dogs out and reflecting on life—where we were, where we wanted to be, and how we were both feeling a little stuck. Kori was working in primary care and had just started dipping her toes into aesthetics. Audrey, having recently lost her father, was feeling the urge to make a meaningful shift. She’d been inspired by the energy of start-ups and had her eye on the flourishing med spa scene in Jacksonville.
That’s when Audrey looked at Kori and said: “Why don’t we open our own medical spa?” Six months later, Audrey had relocated to Johns Island and we were pouring ourselves into bringing that dream to life.
We hunted for the perfect location, eventually landing in a brand-new business park on Johns Island called Hayes Park. With it being new, it was still under construction (cue the building chaos).
Once we had the space, it was time to build the team that shared our passion and commitment to exceptional service—and we struck gold. Their support, trust, and shared values are a huge part of what made our launch successful.
Then came the challenge of getting our name out there. We knew we needed help—and found the perfect partner in Matchstick Social, a marketing team that understood our brand, our voice, and our vision from day one. Thanks to them, we had patients coming through the doors on opening day.
Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. We hit construction delays, business licenses weren’t exactly a walk in the park. We had to figure out accounting (which neither of us was super jazzed about) and somewhere in the middle of it all, Kori got married and became a new mom. Imposter syndrome? Oh yeah. We felt it. But we also leaned on each other, laughed through the chaos, and reminded ourselves why we started.
Our biggest advice to any young professional thinking of starting their own practice is to find a partner who brings out the best in you—someone you trust, someone who’ll dream big and show up for the nitty-gritty. Expect it to be hard, and let that excite you. Surround yourself with the right team. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. And remember: the things that scare you are often the things worth doing. We are still coming up for air two years in but wouldn’t change it for the world. The feeling of working for yourself, supporting a team of amazing women and being able to inspire others while making people feel like the best version of themselves, is priceless.
Opal was built on friendship, courage, and we wouldn’t change a thing.
Kori and Audrey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We’re Audrey Bradham and Kori Borneman, co-founders of Opal Aesthetics, a luxury medical spa located in the heart of Johns Island’s Hayes Park community. At Opal, we offer a carefully curated blend of medical-grade skincare treatments, advanced cosmetic injectables, and state-of-the-art skin resurfacing technologies—all designed to help our patients achieve a natural, refreshed look through a minimalist, patient-first approach.
The idea for Opal took shape in 2021 during a season of reflection for both of us. We were at a point in our lives and careers where we felt called to build something of our own—something that combined our individual strengths with a shared passion for aesthetics, wellness, and helping others feel confident in their skin. With backgrounds in healthcare, risk management, and aesthetics, we recognized the potential to create a space where medical precision met warmth, intention, and genuine connection.
What truly sets Opal Aesthetics apart is our people. Our greatest pride lies in the incredible team we’ve built: a group of passionate, like-minded team members who bring not only top-tier talent and training to the table but also a deep commitment to integrity, collaboration, and patient-centered care. This culture—rooted in kindness, intention, and excellence—is the beating heart of our brand.
We’ve worked hard to establish Opal Aesthetics as more than a medical spa. It’s a place where patients feel seen, heard, and empowered. A place where outcomes are beautiful because they’re thoughtfully considered and expertly executed. And above all, a place where people feel better—not just on the outside, but within.
To anyone just getting to know us, here’s what we want you to take away: Opal is where professionalism meets personality. Where aesthetic care is tailored to you, not a trend.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
We first met in college at Jacksonville University on sorority bid day—a moment that marked the beginning of an instant and lasting friendship. Our connection was immediate, fueled by a shared passion for skin health, wellness, and a tireless work ethic that would later become the foundation of our business. Kori went on to earn a degree in Nursing, while Audrey pursued a degree in Business Marketing. Their complementary strengths and aligned vision laid the groundwork for a dynamic partnership rooted in trust, expertise, and a shared mission to empower others through skin health and wellness.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation has been built on a foundation of authenticity, intentionality, and a deep passion for patient care. From the start, we’ve prioritized transparency, education, and a conservative personalized treatment philosophy that keeps each patient’s goals and needs at the center of every treatment. Our thoughtfully curated services and products reflect a commitment to quality over trends—offering only what aligns with our values and delivers real results. Combined with an elevated, spa-like environment and a distinctive brand presence, our practice stands out for offering a patient experience that feels personal, empowering, and refreshingly different from the industry norm.
