We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Konstantin Starodetskii. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Konstantin below.
Hi Konstantin, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
At the moment, the biggest trend that catches my attention is the explosion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for practical applications, particularly, in the entertainment industry. There are mixed reactions from the public about this development, but I will concentrate on my observation of how it can be useful.
AI, particularly generative AI is a remarkable tool for pre-visualization. Whether you make storyboards, director’s lookbooks, or character sketches. It simply saves time and allows to generate an image close to your specific needs. Since all the pre-vis work is a stepping stone to the final product, film, it is absolutely a game-changer for creators who don’t have access to the costly crew, allowing them to create projects they couldn’t in the past.
Another great AI tool is the video-editing plug-ins, which saves you hours of your time editing simple projects such as multi-cam interviews, by editing most of it for you. It switches from camera to camera based on who’s speaking and AI even cuts speech bumps as it goes through the footage. Only when you need to edit out certain portions of the footage it becomes troublesome because you manually need to search for it, but AI text generation helps with that.
When you need to create captions for your video, let’s say in Adobe Premiere, there is a new addition of AI-based text editing capability. It is one of my favorite breakthroughs so far. It’s extremely accurate which allows you to search through the footage in seconds by simply typing the word or sentence that talent is saying. You can even edit out portions of the actual video by deleting the text from the text window. The best part, it is only getting better.
The final trend I want to spotlight is the use of Unreal Engine and other AI tools in virtual production, which is the future of filmmaking. Even Francis Ford Coppola heavily relied on it for his upcoming movie Megalopolis. It gives you the flexibility to create incredibly realistic images of imaginary or real worlds that the audience has not seen before. It’s practical and it can lower production costs, especially if the size of your budget is above a certain level.
AI will continue to grow in its variety of uses, and not just in the entertainment industry. Our best bet is to learn how to use Artificial Intelligence tech in our specific fields. After all, it is meant to be our tool, not our master.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a writer, director, and producer based in Los Angeles. I have written and directed short films, music videos, and documentaries.
Soon after graduation from UCLA, I sold my first TV Pilot screenplay. My films have been selected for international film festivals and have won awards.
I’m passionate about stories that unite humanity and uplift souls, and my goal is to inspire everyone to create works that make us better, kinder human beings.
At my job at iHeart Radio, I’ve filmed many celebrities, including John Legend, Aespa, Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Katy Perry, Ice Spice, Ed Sheeran, Kali Uchis, Due Lipa, and many more.
In addition to client video work at my Rumikay Studio production company, I host the filmmaking podcast Rumikay Talks. Some of the guests were Andrea Osvart, Cynthia Hsiung, Barbara Williams, Amy Walker, and Ashley Hoff.
In my work, I strive for quality, innovation, and creativity. When I work with my clients, I implement all the latest tools available on the market and emphasize the importance of storytelling in everything I do.
I am currently in the pre-production stage of my sci-fi/fantasy film short film, “Tribe Rules,” which is set in a desert.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There is one book that changed the course of my life and put me on the path of self-development. It is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. It taught me everything about productivity and proactive work. The book has a perfect structure of the fundamentals that you need to master in order to be the best at whatever you do. It is always in my library and I recommend it to anyone interested in being their most productive self.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being an artist helps me to explore life. Filmmaking is my tool for finding truth in the world. There is no better feeling than discovering some new aspect of life, that I haven’t experienced before by writing new stories, filming in new locations, or capturing incredible visuals with a camera. The process itself is the ultimate reward.
