Komal , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Life is full of risks, but sometimes the biggest rewards come from taking a leap into the unknown. One of the most significant risks I’ve taken was stepping away from my career to stay home with my children. When I had my second child, I made the decision to fully dedicate myself to being present for my daughter and embracing motherhood in a way that felt right for me. It was a transition filled with love, personal growth, and an overwhelming sense of fulfillment. Being there for every milestone, every laugh, and every moment of discovery was truly priceless.
As she grew older and became more independent, I felt a pull toward rediscovering myself outside of motherhood. I knew I wanted to build something of my own—something I was passionate about and that would contribute to my community. That’s when I took another big risk: opening Blo Blow Dry Bar in Germantown, TN. At the time, there wasn’t a single business in the Memphis area solely dedicated to hairstyling services. I saw a gap in the market and an opportunity to bring something unique to the community—an elevated space where women could feel empowered, confident, and beautiful.
Opening in September 2023 was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. Starting a business is always a risk, and I had to learn how to navigate entrepreneurship while staying true to my vision. But from the moment we opened our doors, the response from our guests has been incredible. Seeing women walk out of our bar feeling confident and radiant makes every challenge worth it. Our team specializes in blowouts, makeup, and extensions, but more than that, we provide a space where self-care is celebrated and beauty is accessible.
Looking back, both decisions—staying home with my kids and later pursuing my passion—were risks in their own way. But each step led me to where I am today, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Taking that leap into business ownership has been an amazing journey, and I’m so grateful to be making a difference in the lives of the women in my community.

I’m the proud owner of Blo Blow Dry Bar in Germantown, TN, where we specialize in blowouts, makeup, and hair extensions—providing a space where beauty meets confidence. My journey into this industry was fueled by both passion and purpose. After spending years focused on raising my children, I found myself ready to embark on something new—something that not only excited me but also allowed me to make a meaningful impact on the women in my community. That’s when I discovered Blo Blow Dry Bar and saw an incredible opportunity to bring a unique beauty experience to the Memphis area.
When we opened our doors in September 2023, we became the first and only beauty bar in the area solely dedicated to hair styling. Unlike a traditional salon, we don’t cut or color—we specialize in styling, ensuring that every guest walks out with a flawless, confidence-boosting look. Whether it’s a voluminous blowout, a sleek and polished style, glamorous makeup, or extensions to enhance natural beauty, our team is dedicated to making our guests feel their absolute best.
One of the things that sets us apart is our commitment to empowering women through beauty and education. Our guests aren’t just coming in for a service—they’re stepping into an experience where they can learn more about hair care, styling techniques, and how to maintain their looks beyond our chairs. We take pride in being a space where self-care is celebrated, and every guest—no matter their hair type or personal style—feels welcomed and valued.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built at Blo Germantown. Seeing the joy and confidence on a guest’s face after a service is the most rewarding part of this journey.
