We were lucky to catch up with Kojo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kojo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
The most defining moment for my career as an artist has been reaching my projected goals. The experience of locking in on a task is one thing , but to actually witness it as well as being fully present to accept that your passion and hard work landed you in this space of success is a wonderful feeling.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a creator of concepts, entwining visuals alongside sonically pleasing series of encapsulated life. The art and me the artist now share a beautiful relationship in which I use my art to convey a message or spark emotions through tangible or non tangible pieces. As of now I’m loving the stats of seeing my reach that my music has got. The project Memory Lane by Kojo has gained 10k plus plays across all digitally streaming platforms. The milestones of this project communicated to my potential and stamped my approval to thrive more with anything I decide to venture in.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn is that just because someone can present to you an idea doesn’t mean you have to see things through. The huge take away from this understanding the foundation in which another person presents may truly lack the right quality to collaborate on anything. I had to realize that overextending to reach a certain goal may need more time for me to step back listen to myself more than listening to another person even if whomever did mean well.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
The most important skill needed to succeed in this field of music and entertainment has to deal with the amount to practice you pour into your craft. The saying of spending ten thousand hours on your passion is a real thing. The moments when you need to show up and be ready to nail a concept or perform a song relies on your memory and the ability to adapt in any environment.
