We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kocaine Kay . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kocaine Kay below.
Alright, Kocaine Kay thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I’m glad I started when I started but if I could go back in time I would have started later. The reason I would have started later is because they things I use to do with my music and the money I received was like giving it away compared to now. Now you have streaming platforms for independent artist, but when I started it was out the trunk meaning if your music get around the world you took it yourself and promoted yourself in other city’s or had some type of relationship with people out of your reach.
When I started I was young so I didn’t know the business of it, I was just dropping music for my city and my neighborhood at 15 or 16 just happy knowing somebody love my sound and what I had to offer. I wasn’t really business minded and wise to the in and outs of it all yet.
I feel if I had started once everything was as simple and it is now I would have save some of my energy and best work that can’t receive credit. Like I was using industry beats and now I make them or get them made so my songs are my songs. I basically wasted music, but at the same time it made people recognize me to this day so I need that wasted time to make it make scene nowadays.

Kocaine Kay , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I go by the stage name of Kocaine Kay. I’m from Elizabeth City, North Carolina
I been doing music since a child but got serious with at 15 or 16. I went from writing at home and in class until I landed in a studio. Where things change hearing my voice and letting people judge it. Made me turn it up a notch knowing I had fans to do it for and plus people were watching so I made it my lifestyle music is a part of my life it’s a on going thing for me.
You got to discipline yourself and stay humble when you independent it’s just you and your team. No robots meaning you not in the industry so all your push comes from you and your team. Everybody got to stay on each other. Nobody is going push you when you slack down or get lazy. Everytime you get off task it’s like starting over or not progressing. If you don’t get up and put in the work you want see results versus having the computers and the big name labels with people who been connected.
I work hard and practice it’s a routine, to make sure I stand out from everyone who copy or join the new waves. I stay consistent dropping the music I love and the music I been through. I don’t do what people think is a trend so I standout because I do me.
I want my fans and anyone who is interested in my brand or whatever I have going on to know I put my blood sweat and tears in it all to make sure I deliver nothing but my best. when you see my videos or see me at a live performances I going it my all at that moment. When you hear my music I’m giving you apart of me, if you are wearing my clothing brand I put thought into how I wanted it to make you look and feel. Everything I’m apart of you getting my best I can give to you.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I never really figured out the things with NFTs but I was on goggle reading about it. I think it cool to sell people something exclusive knowing its limited amounts of it.
But I don’t like how something you paid for at a higher expense could lose value, but I do like that you can have something that only you and few other people or maybe even just you own.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Since I started the goal was to be the best and what I do and always deliver that greatness I was blessed with. Then my mission became to get rich off what I already love to do so I made It my job.
