We recently connected with Kobe Morrison and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kobe, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I started privately puppeteering in middle school around the same time I made silly videos with my cousins on the apps Vine & Musical.ly. After a while, I wanted to start showcasing my talents online. This gave me the idea to combine the two worlds of puppeteering and making videos with my cousins as one, and TCG Puppets was born. We started off making videos with my family as co-stars to the puppets, which I perform with.
Although, I felt like Musical.ly wasn’t giving these characters enough room to grow & develop and be likable. That’s when I made the decision to make TCG Puppets’ content primarily for YouTube. During the first 3 years, my main goal was to just make people laugh, and entertain audiences of all types in a wholesome way. During my 4th year, I realized that I can use my creativity and platform to put out meaningful messages. Plus, turn my web show into its own brand, by creating more than just videos for the internet. I’ve been able to do live shows, release music, book gigs, and collab with other creators.
I’ve recently launched my brand new website www.TCGpuppets.com, where you can watch exclusive videos, purchase merch, and even play games! As I continue to grow with TCG Puppets, I want to be able to create high-budget tv shows and films to tell more stories that will make others smile but also take something meaningful away from them. I want to make a positive impact in the best way I know-how. Through entertainment.

Kobe, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am, primarily, an Actor and Singer. Although I’m also skilled in puppetry, dance, writing, filming, composing, and more! I’m able to use all of these attributes within the brand I created. TCG Puppets: Comedy & Entertainment specializes in and is most known for online sketch comedy. Over time I’ve incorporated original songs, parodies, cosplay, and live shows featuring stand-up, and musical performances. What sets TCG Puppets apart from other comedians is that I use a wide variety of puppets with multiple personalities to deliver jokes, and with that, the comedy can have a wide range as far as who certain jokes are intended for. What sets us apart from other puppeteers is that we incorporate original songs into what we do. The vibe of each of our songs is a perfect blend of a radio hit and a comical musical soundtrack. We try to have our music be appealing to a wide audience, so we strive to make it sound really good while also telling a story. Plus our debut album will be dropping later this year! The last thing that I feel really separates us is that our comedy/music/ and overall brand comes from the mind and perspective of a young, black, gay creator (myself). With this, I feel I have the power to relate to multiple communities and generations and tap into everyone’s sense of humor and appeal.
Something that I’m extremely proud of is my upcoming short film “TCG Puppets: Halloween Spooktacular”. It’s my first ever professional short film that I was able to write, produce, direct, edit and it’s the most high-quality project I’ve ever done so far. Plus it’s my first collaboration with 4 fellow online comedians and puppeteers with a huge following such as Ty Gibson (@yeahitstyg), Christine Barger (@christinebargerofficial), Kermit The Puppet (@kermitthepuppet), and Varonica Mitchell (@_thevvshow). The comedy/musical film is set to premiere on October 14th on YouTube under TCG Puppets! I’ve released one of the tracks and music video from the film titled “Halloween Night”, which has already gotten a lot of support. I feel like the music video and overall movie capture my growth as a storyteller, performer, and filmmaker. I can’t wait for everyone to see the full thing on October 14th!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
As I mentioned earlier, I mostly create comedy skits, but I do have a mini-series on my YouTube channel called “Melissa Music Videos”. Basically, one of my puppets, Melissa, cosplays as a character based off a song, and lipsyncs to it as she’s now in that world. My most popular Melissa Music Videos have featured cosplay from Disney’s Channel’s Descendants and Zombies. So if I were to give any advice to anyone interested in social media, I’d say to use inspiration from pop culture and relevant topics. This gives your audience something to gravitate towards and it introduces your content in a fun way while relating it to something they already know and love.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As a child, I’ve always wanted to become a tv and film actor. I would picture myself on Disney Channel or Nickelodeon, hoping that one day I could become one of those stars. But now that I’ve grown so much in my various talents and also discovered my passion for the creative process as well, my goal is to someday star in and create my own tv show. Preferably a family sitcom. I think I have the potential to do that and make an impact on people all over the world, especially the youth. I want to create something that everyone can enjoy together, laugh their heads off, and take away something meaningful behind it. I already have lots of ideas of how I could make this work, I just need an opportunity! Certain videos I’ve created like “Learn You History” or my upcoming Halloween Spooktacular captures a bit of that storytelling that I’m going for, but of course, with a full team behind me, the right budget, and creative freedom, I feel like I could really make something special.
