Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Knox Peake. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Knox , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you manage your own social media?
Up until now, I have managed my own social media presence. The fact that I have a creator business is a bit of an accident anyway. I originally started my page as a hobby and for fun. After about a year, a brand reached out to me and I almost thought it was a scam – and it wasn’t. It happened to be Degree Deodorant. I worked with them and then more well known brands approached me. I had to learn how to understand the content that each brand wanted me to deliver, the terms of the contract, and make sure I successfully fulfilled their campaign requests. Until this year, I mainly relied on partnerships that were presented to me and realized that I needed to grow even further. So I created a media kit and begin to go after new opportunities proactively.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I really got into my business after being approached by a client to make branded content – something that never really crossed my mind. I run a lifestyle and adventure page, so my service is that I provide original creative content to support the brands I work with and their strategic goals. Many of my brands have been men’s grooming products, menswear, lawn and garden brands, brewers, pet food brands, health and wellness brands, state and city tourism boards, hotels, and more. All of which I use or can personally vouch for. I have to be authentic when working on those types of partnerships and I have turned down brands that didn’t align with my values. I also have a large LGBT+ audience and when I do travel content, I make sure there is an element of that in my work. I have of course worked for some brands like the Ritz Carlton that target that demographic, but really enjoy working with tourism boards and brands that are working to grow their presence with the community. For example, I have worked on a tourism campaign with the State of Kentucky as well as cities like Richmond, VA, Gatlinburg, TN, and Chattanooga, TN. Places that don’t traditionally come to mind as weekend getaways for a lot of my audience, but should definitely be considered. I’m most proud that I can deliver content that is both known and different to my audience. Most importantly, I’m so grateful my audience enjoys what I share with them.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes – and this answer is going to sound so simple, but having an up to date, polished media kit! Even after I started working with my first handful of brands, I really didn’t think to take the time to create this. However, as a content creator it is imperative that you have this digital resume of sorts! I have now crafted what I think is a visually appealing media kit that not only outlines the brands I have worked with but shows samples of my best work. Having this media kit is essential when going after opportunities and I wish I would have created mine much earlier than I did. You can find my media kit in my Instagram Bio @knoxpeake.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I just want to share life and all the worthwhile experiences and adventures that are out there. There is so much negativity on social media and I vowed to never post anything pessimistic. I want to offer an escape to my audience and bring them joy even in times when the world may feel heavy. I want my legacy as a content creator to be a positive one that has consistently lifted people up and brought joy to their daily lives. I would want to be remembered as someone who believed in the good in people and inspired them to take the adventure, however big or small it may be. I also take pride in my home and love to showcase work I’ve done around my house and in my yard. I want people to enjoy and take care of whatever space they occupy. I love sharing my family life and dogs as well as the adventures we all take. I want people to know that you can have a great weekend at home or be a weekend warrior. Basically, I just want to inspire people to live their lives to fullest. I truly believe when you share your joy with the world you bring joy to your soul! I believe what you bring to others, you bring to yourself. I’m just beyond grateful for my followers, their kind comments, and the love they bring into my life.
