We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Knaladeus a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Knaladeus, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Music has always been a huge part of my family. My dad was a DJ and dabbled in Rap, and production to a degree. Also on my mom’s side, there were already known musicians. I didn’t really knew it was something I truly wanted to pursue until around the age of 15. I remember hearing a song off of Nas’2nd album ‘ It Was written ‘ called ‘Message’, In my brothers car and I remember telling myself, I want to make people feel what I felt after hearing that.

Knaladeus, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So I’ve been Rapping, producing and recording/ Engineering for over 20 years simultaneously. I’ve worked with repected artists ranging different genres. I provide mixing and mastering services along with production and even consultation/ feedback. I’ve focused mainly on my own body of work over the years as well. I pride myself on lyricism, soul and feeling in my craft. As far as the music is concerned I never shy away from being introspective, but also pointing back to God. Ultimately I want the listener to feel as though they went through a journey with me.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One of the biggest concerns I’ve come across from non creatives is, understanding that success looks different for everyone. Perception is false as well, looks can be deceiving. I’ve seen the most thriving creatives succeed in their careers, financially and musically without making it as public. Numbers don’t equate to revenue, in terms of following etc. Understand your creative friends are taking a leap of faith literally, doing what many may hesitate to do, due to uncertainty in the outcome.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
When someone hears my work, and fines enjoyment. Or when something I wrote from a personally place resonates with someone. An even better example is when this happens with a loved one.
