We caught up with the brilliant and insightful K!Junkies, Amanda & Nathalie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
K!Junkies,, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
We created our YouTube channel “K!Junkies” back in 2015, a year into our relationship. It was mostly just for fun to share our love and knowledge of K-Pop with others, but along the years we started doing other projects and bringing K-Pop events and games to local K-Pop stores, gatherings, and conventions. In 2019, we began building a more established brand for our K-Pop hosting of panels and dance contests to local conventions in Miami, but we are now being contracted and flown across the country to bring our content to other conventions! Seeing how much K-Pop fans love and appreciate what we bring to them is what made us decide that this is the kind of work we want to continue doing together as a now married couple.
K!Junkies,, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are long-time K-Pop fans, having been in the community since 2010. We have seen how K-Pop has shifted in music and popularity over the last 13 years. We’ve been a couple since 2014 and officially married in 2022, K-Pop being the thing that got us together and kept our relationship so strong. Our mutual love for K-Pop is what makes our craft so unique and we strive to create content that all K-Pop fans can enjoy, both online and in-person. We also represent LGBTQ+ relationships within the K-Pop community and feel that we offer an dynamic that not many other influencers can give.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Our supporters are definitely what keeps us going. There are many times where we feel stuck or that we can’t progress in our work, but the supportive comments thanking us for what we create and bring to others is what reminds us that we do make K-Pop fans happy and help them gain fond memories because of what we put together. Even if it’s just a handful of people showing their appreciation for us, it is enough to want to keep doing what we love because of the possibility of continuing to make other fans happy.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Seeing that other conventions and people are gaining an interest in our craft has us wanting to keep grabbing more opportunities like that to prove our worth. Our goal is to snag an opportunity with a convention or event that is solely about K-Pop, rather than just brining K-Pop to a multi-fandom show. We want to be able to be seen for what we create as worthy enough to be represented at an event that’s centered around K-Pop, considering there are so many content creators in the K-Pop fandom nowadays.
