Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kizra Deon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kizra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2019 with hopes of being signed to an Agency. After countless Auditions, Submissions, Classes etc. I still have been unsuccessful in getting signed. I viewed this as an issue/obstacle in my Acting career for so long because I felt like it prevented me from getting next level roles on Network television. I haven’t been able to tap into the Co-Star, Guest Star world and it made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. I felt this way for 7 years. It wasn’t until the beginning of 2025, a few weeks ago, where I got the Revelation that although my career has not taken me down that path yet, it doesn’t discount the road that God has taken me down thus far. I was able to turn what I viewed as an issue into an opportunity to see what God has done for me and my career already.
While I haven’t signed with an agency yet, I’ve taken that as an opportunity to really hone my craft and build my own brand. I’ve been able to gain experience, network, and learn about different aspects of the industry on my own terms and the journey is just getting started!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a woman of many hats. I am a Believer, Mother, Creator and what I am known best for, an Actor. I was born and raised in Miami, FL in the heart of Liberty City. This is where it all started for me with Acting, I competed in Elementary school in Oraltorical Contest, performed in church plays and developed my gifts at The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center through Dance, Drama and Musical Theater. My passion for Acting/Theater grew deeper and I continued Acting all through High school and some college.
In 2017, I reconnected with Acting after taking some time away and it has been non-stop for me ever since. I moved to Georgia in 2019 to further pursue my Acting career. I literally packed up a U-Haul truck and hit the road to new beginnings.
I can say that I hit the ground running when arriving to GA, with compelling performances in both film and theater, you may know me by some of my work, and if you don’t yet, you will soon for what’s to come.
I am most proud of all the work that I have put out because it is not easy, this is a very competitive and subjective industry and your “YES” may not be today and tomorrow, it may come today and 2 months from now, you just never know. I continue to exercise my craft by auditioning, creating, writing, reading scripts/books and studying movies, shows and actors.
I can be seen in the streaming world with standout performances in “The Transporter,” written, directed, and produced by Silk White, “Her Husband’s Enemy,” written and directed by Beasy Jones, both of which are currently available on TUBI. I also star in the acclaimed original series (My very first series) “To Each His Own,” which is streaming on Amazon Prime and TUBI. In addition to Tubi, I have also appeared in the feature film “Critical Thinking,” alongside the legendary John Leguizamo, which is currently streaming on Netflix. This is just to name a few, I have several projects that will be streaming soon if not already by the time you read this. ( “A Price to Pay” movie with ShowTime Productions and “Hustlers and Lovers” TV Series, written and directed by Detroit’s finest, Lorenzo Pierson).
I was a Thespian first, so Theater has always been my first love. With my most recent role as Mattie Campbell in August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” demonstrating my ability to bring powerful characters to life in live performances.
My trust and commitment to God is the reason I cannot and will not give up on my Craft, despite the dry seasons that I may experience. My prayer is that someone is inspired, moved and motivated by my story, journey and faith!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The Outcome….As an Actor, when I make an impact on someone’s emotions/feelings, that tells me I did my job effectively and that in itself is rewarding for me. Playing on emotions and lasting effects is what I aim to do in each role I portray as an Actor.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal for me is to always be better than my best self. That means that I have NEVER arrived and I am forever learning. The Bible says only a fool despises Wisdom and Discipline, so as long as I am postured correctly (discipline) to receive everything available to me (wisdom), to push me on this journey, then the goal will be met. Forever a student is my Mission.
