We were lucky to catch up with Kiyarah Hamilton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kiyarah , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think that it takes a serial plan, to be successful. With a plan comes discipline, you have to be serious and determined with your own self to do exactly what you wanna do. Planning your every move, day by day, week by week, month by month and year by year.. you have to set new goals for yourself and a “game plan” to execute. I look at other young ladies around my age doing the same thing as me with so much success because they sticked to their plan.. they maintained discipline and go through it and continued to excel in their craft.. producing better results, more clientele, more consistent flow of money, execution business plans, and more.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been a entrepreneur since 2020. I began my business after being laid off from working because of the infamous coronavirus. I began selling Brazilian bundles, silk bonnets, silk scarfs and lash strips. As time progressed, I released more and more.. even switched the origin of the hair I was selling. Into 2021-2022, I invested into 3 lash classes and began my lash career. 2022, I moved to Baltimore, MD to attend school and I took a slight “pause” from doing lashes until I felt determined again, I began doing services home based and as my clientele grew.. I have now moved into my own suite.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I’ve always had a “hustle”, I’ve always had a eye for my “own money”. I began my business as something I can make money from on the “side” but I had every intention on creating a career for myself. Although, I still do carry a job, I tend to my business 99% of the time. Most of my days consist of me at the shop taking care of service clients, I can say that my clientele has grown since my relocation in Baltimore.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I absolutely love my clients, when they haven’t booked in a while.. I always try to PERSONALLY reach out to them just checking on them. I know life happens everyday, so I love to know if my clients are doing well .. wether they’re getting serviced or not. After appointments, I have a automated email systems set up to ask my clients to rate their experience with me so it can help me improve on what I need to do and what I can change etc.
