We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kiyanna Singletary. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kiyanna below.
Kiyanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My late father’s passing in 2018 was a devastating blow to my family. His battle with cancer left a profound impact on all his children particularly in the way we thought about the importance of quality care and comfort in people’s final days. My sisters and I were determined to honor his memory by creating A Heart of Gold Home Care Agency to make a difference in the lives of others during their final days.
We wanted to create an agency that would not only provide exceptional medical care but also prioritize the emotional and social well-being of patients and their families. We envisioned an agency that would treat each person with dignity, respect, and compassion, making their final days as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
We were drawn to this endeavor because it was personal. We had lived through the pain and uncertainty of cancer, and we knew that no one should have to face it alone. We also recognized that there was a gap in the market for a home care agency that truly understood the complexities of end-of-life care. Many agencies focused on providing medical assistance, but few prioritized the emotional and social aspects of care.
Our unique approach was centered around creating a sense of community and connection for our participants and their families. We wanted to provide a holistic approach to care, one that addressed the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of each individual. We saw this as an opportunity to not only improve the quality of life for clients but also to empower their loved ones to support them in meaningful ways.
The logic behind our idea was rooted in the understanding that people are more than just their medical conditions. They are individuals with stories, hopes, dreams, and fears. By prioritizing their comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being, we believed that you could make a tangible difference in their lives.
As we started building our agency, we were excited about the prospect of creating a team of caregivers who would not only provide medical support but also become advocates for patients’ emotional and social needs. We envisioned an agency that would foster a sense of community among patients and their families, providing a safe space for them to share their experiences, find support, and build lasting connections.
Our decision to start our own home care agency was not just about solving a problem; it was about creating a legacy that would honor our father’s memory and make a lasting impact on the lives of others. By providing exceptional care and compassion, we aimed to bring joy, comfort, and peace to those who needed it most. This unique approach was what excited us most a blend of compassion, empathy, and a relentless commitment to improving the end-of-life experience.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The logic behind starting A Heart of Gold Home Care Agency was clear; we had seen firsthand the struggles families endure when faced with a terminal illness. By creating a service that prioritizes joy, dignity, and heartfelt support, we believed we could truly make a difference.
As we took the leap into this endeavor, we felt proud to stand for something meaningful. Our agency provides personalized care tailored to each patient’s preferences and needs, focusing not only on physical care but also on emotional wellness. We offer a range of services from assistance with daily activities and meal preparation to engaging in activities that foster connection and enjoyment.
What sets us apart is our deep-rooted understanding of the emotional journey our clients face. We are driven by the mission to create memorable experiences, to laugh, and to celebrate life, no matter how limited the time may be! We strive to be a source of comfort, not just caregivers but friends who bring joy into homes.
Above all, we’re most proud of the relationships we’ve built with families and the positive impact we’re making during such challenging times. We want potential clients, followers, and supporters to know that our agency is an extension of our passion for care, driven by both our personal experiences and a heartfelt commitment to making a difference. We are here to ensure that no one has to navigate this tough journey alone; we are dedicated to being a guiding light, a source of comfort, and a champion of joy during life’s most difficult moments.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The journey of starting our home care agency has been profoundly influenced by our family’s experience after losing our father to cancer in 2018. It was a significant turning point for my sisters and me, marked by both heartbreak and inspiration.
Many late nights were spent strategizing, planning, and sometimes even arguing about the best approach. But through it all, our shared commitment to honoring our father’s memory by providing compassionate care fueled our resilience. The emotional weight of our loss provided a profound motivation and I f we could ease the struggle for even one family, it would be worth every challenge.
I’m most proud of the positive impact we’ve made in our community and families often express their gratitude for the comfort we bring during their toughest times.

Any advice for managing a team?
Managing a team effectively while maintaining high morale is crucial for productivity and overall job satisfaction. I believe open communication, setting clear goals, recognize and reward achievements, encourage professional development, promote work life balance, establish trust, lead by example, encourage team bonding, and giving constructive feedback are strategies for maintaining a high morale.
