We recently connected with Kiya Stahle and have shared our conversation below.
Kiya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Some of the most profoundly meaningful projects I’ve been a part of involve capturing the essence of clients’ loved ones who have passed away or are nearing the end of their journey. These sessions hold a deeply special place in my heart. One particularly memorable experience was with a client who had lost her husband a year earlier and was finally ready to take family photos with her two young daughters. Hearing her recount the story of how she and her husband met, sharing his character, and listening to her five-year-old daughter’s precious memories of her father was an incredibly moving experience. The growth and strength this client demonstrated, and the love she poured into her daughters, were truly inspiring.
We created poignant images of the family, incorporating a photograph of her late husband into the session. Being able to document these intimate moments and listen to the beautiful memories my client cherished about her husband was an immense honor. It is experiences like these that bring a deep sense of fulfillment, as they not only capture moments in time but also honor the enduring bonds of love and memory.
Kiya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
With nearly seven years of experience, my photography business specializes in capturing family, newborn, portrait, and bridal moments with a style that radiates warmth, intimacy, and candid authenticity. My passion lies in immortalizing the romance and beauty of everyday life, creating memories that my clients will treasure forever. I’m dedicated to going above and beyond for each person I work with, ensuring that every session is not only professionally executed but also an enjoyable and comfortable experience. My attention to detail and commitment to making clients feel at ease help transform each shoot into a fun and memorable occasion, where even the most camera-shy participants, including children and dads, find themselves having a great time.
What I find most rewarding in my role as a photographer is the honor of being present for life’s most significant moments. From births and graduations to weddings and memorials, each session leaves an indelible mark on my heart. While some may view photos as mere images, to me, they represent cherished moments in the lives of my clients. My genuine care and emotional investment in every photograph reflect my belief that these images are more than just pictures—they are priceless treasures that hold deep personal significance.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is the privilege of having a front-row seat to some of life’s most profound moments. Whether I am capturing the elation of a couple’s wedding day, the tender joy of a newborn’s first days, or the solemnity of a dear soul’s farewell, each session offers a unique and intimate glimpse into the human experience that few get to witness firsthand. The opportunity to be present during these significant events and to freeze these fleeting moments into lasting memories is truly unparalleled.
Additionally, experiencing the full spectrum of human emotion alongside my clients is both humbling and enriching. Photography allows me to document the pure happiness of a family gathering, the bittersweet moments of transition, and everything in between. Being an observer and a participant in these emotional journeys, while preserving them through my lens, creates a deep connection with the people I photograph. It’s a powerful feeling to know that my work will serve as a visual testament to the emotions and stories of my clients’ lives.
Meeting and capturing the essence of the incredible people I encounter is another profoundly rewarding aspect of my work. From witnessing new life enter the world to honoring lives as they come to a close, photography grants me the rare opportunity to document and celebrate the beauty and fragility of life. The joy of being creative, of crafting images that resonate and bring joy to others, adds another layer of satisfaction to my role. Each photograph becomes a cherished keepsake, reflecting the exquisite nature of the moments I am fortunate enough to capture.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
To expand my clientele, I’ve dedicated myself to showcasing my best work across various social media platforms and continually honing my craft through photography workshops. My commitment extends beyond just capturing beautiful images; I prioritize creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience for each client during their sessions. Recognizing the value of client referrals, I place immense importance on building strong, positive relationships, as many new clients discover my business through word of mouth. For me, putting clients first is not just a priority—it’s the cornerstone of my approach to business.
