We were lucky to catch up with Kitty Roberts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kitty, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
When I talk to people about our travels, especially our experiences at Hedonism, I often find that they immediately associate the resort with the idea of swingers and overt sexual activity. While there are certainly people who engage in that type of behavior, I always like to emphasize that there is so much more to the experience than that.
In reality, our group at Hedonism is a fun and diverse bunch of people who are there to enjoy each other’s company and have a good time, regardless of their sexual preferences or level of experience. Whether you want to spend your days reading books and sipping Virgin Pina Coladas by the pool, or if you’re interested in participating in some of the more adventurous activities on the nude side of the resort, the choice is entirely yours.
Ultimately, what’s most important is that you feel comfortable and supported by the group, regardless of the choices you make. We always strive for a balanced experience that allows everyone to have fun in their own way, without feeling judged or pressured into anything they’re not comfortable with.

Kitty, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2013, I founded the Worst Behavior Tour (WBT), a travel group for open-minded, non-judgmental urban professionals from diverse backgrounds. WBT provides a safe and welcoming space for people to enjoy beautiful settings and make new connections. Our travels take us to many different destinations around the world, from Jamaica to Greece, the Philippines to Orlando, and beyond. Currently, I am in Egypt with a group of travelers from WBT. We take care of all the details of our trips, so our guests can relax and have fun.
After being laid off from a corporate job I had for many years, I decided to take a chance on myself and create a business doing what I love – putting together events. Hosting travel events was a natural extension of my passion for planning amazing parties. Event planning is in my blood, with both my mother and grandmother known for hosting events. I’ve always been passionate about travel and believe that everyone should experience the world, even if only in small ways. I believe that travel helps us to become well-rounded individuals and to learn about ourselves and others.
When I first started hosting trips, I decided to focus on Hedonism resort in Jamaica, an all-inclusive, adult-only, clothing-optional resort. While it is often called a “swingers resort,” it is much more than that, especially when traveling with a group that shares your style. My first trip to Hedonism was gifted to me a few years before I started my business, and it was a life-changing experience that I wanted to share with everyone I knew. I love that Hedonism is for everyone, no matter what their background or appearance, and that it can be as mild or wild as you want it to be. Our Hedonism trips are our most popular vacations, and we have been bringing people there for the past eight years. We actually host more people of color to Hedonism than any other group.
Every trip is important to me, and I strive to create experiences that build connections and lasting memories. Our guests often leave with new friends and a desire to book their next trip with us. I have even attended five weddings between people who met through my group, which is incredibly rewarding.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous businesses have suffered greatly, with many unable to recover. The travel industry, in particular, was severely affected, and during this challenging time, there were doubts about our ability to survive. Nonetheless, we were able to adapt by implementing new policies and procedures, which enabled us to continue operating. As a business that values the safety and well-being of our clients, we took measures to ensure that our guests felt safe, including mandatory testing before each trip and limiting activities to essential errands like grocery store runs.
However, it was difficult to come to terms with the fact that the year we had planned to host more trips and events than ever before was significantly disrupted. As an entrepreneur, I understand the advantages of this path, but it is crucial to acknowledge that there are no safety nets to rely on when things get tough. It is up to us to overcome obstacles and persist through adversity.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As a creative, the most fulfilling aspect of my work is seeing the impact it has on people’s lives. Hearing positive feedback from our clients, witnessing new friendships form, and being a part of creating unforgettable memories on each trip is truly rewarding. Seeing how our creative work can bring joy and happiness to others is something that inspires me to continue pushing my boundaries and exploring new ideas in my craft. Additionally, knowing that I am contributing to making the world a more beautiful and enjoyable place is a huge motivator that keeps me going.
