We recently connected with Kita Bryant and have shared our conversation below.
Kita, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
I love this idea because it helps a company or organization that is near and dear to my heart. I love to give and this is a great way to do that. I would make sure that it is a business that aligns with my core audience then make sure it doesn’t go against my beliefs or core value. This also lets my customers know what I stand for and gives them an insight look on who and what I am all about.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I started taking pictures in 2010 after my husband was tired of going to olan mills every time my daughter turned a new month. I would do monthly photos of my baby (before it was popular) and he suggested I just buy a camera and do it myself. So we did. I took pics of everything from the grass to the food that wasn’t plated nicely at all lol.
I did my first engagement photo in 2014 and from then built my business to where it is today.
My services include photoshoots, reels/TikTok videos/ and content writing.
I solve the problem of making sure you have something visual to tell your story.
I am most proud of how far I’ve come. If y’all saw my photos when I started…trash but being consistent daily and picking up my camera and continuing to learn daily has been a blessing. I am always learning and taking classes because I never think I know everything because I don.t I want my clients to know that I’m not perfect but who is. That is why I make sure we capture a not so perfect life perfectly.
I also got into photography because when my hubs died he didn’t have a lot of photos and the few that he did have were the ones I took. It’s so important to take family photos or the documentary-style photos to have something that remains still even when life doesn’t.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I bought my first camera it was a canon t3i. We bought it using our income tax money. I bought that and one lens (that didn’t come with the kit) I used that for years until I made enough money to upgrade to the canon 6d and then the 5D model.
I didn’t have a lot of money starting out I had to use what I had. Buying used has helped me out so much and also making sure I didn’t buy what I didn’t need. I rented out a lot of things to save money because it was cheaper to rent than to buy for certain shoots.
When I bought the canon 5D I had saved all of my money from my shoots throughout the years and used that to buy my equipment cash. Each shoot after that I put money aside to buy the lens. I don’t think you need a lot of lenses and I work with 4 of them. Do I want more? Yes but really the art of shooting is to use what you have and master that. You don’t need a lot of capital you just need the will to work and learn
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Emails. Emails. Emails. It’s the best way. I make sure clients new and old sign up for my emails. It’s the best way to keep in touch with me. See what cities I’m traveling to and how they can get free shoots throughout the year. Brand loyalty to me comes hand in hand with good customer service. I offer more and do more than most photographers so that alone makes my clients loyal to me.
