We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kishah Langham-Harris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kishah below.
Alright, Kishah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
Most people in my industry disagree about virtual staging. I think most stagers feel like it’s a bate and switch because the wow factor has been created online and it’s a big let down in person. I feel totally comfortable with the idea of adding virtual staging to my business options. It’s a great tool to use when you are working with a limited budget, when you have buyers that live in other states or Countries and won’t set foot into the property until after closing. I do believe agents should make sure that they let potential buyers know that the home has been virtually staged in their marketing of the home. I myself have purchased property that I didn’t physically see until days after closing and virtual staging had been applied to the photos.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started off in the hospitality industry owning a Bed and Breakfast in the Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin area as the first African American Inn Keeper. My passion for design and staging my home and business took me into the area of property staging. Years of developing my people skills and experience has let me to interact and do business with some of the most amazing people from all over the world. I am passionate about my work, my community and my business.
I was just announced as the RESA Texas Board President last night (Real Estate Staging Association)
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson of believing my ideas and visions were safe. I love sharing and helping others grow in the areas of life and business but over the years I’ve learned to protect my most valuable resources……my vision and my business ideas. I’ve had people pick my brain and use my ideas as their own. So now I cover myself with none disclosure contracts.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advise for managing a team and maintaining high morale is to build trust, mean what you say and value your staff with realistic income, understanding when family and emergency situations arise. Just being a generally good person.
