We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kisha Poole a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kisha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
As a best-selling author, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, I hope to build a legacy of relentless hard work, selflessness, and an unwavering pursuit of dreams. After decades in corporate America, I took a leap of faith to bet on myself, and I want to be remembered for my dedication and courage. I always see the glass as half full and strive to help others whenever I can. My drive to be the best and to support my children, ensuring their future success, stands as a testament to my impact. I want to be remembered as a devoted mom and a trailblazer who inspired many to chase their dreams.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who may not have read about me before, I’m a best-selling author, entrepreneur, and philanthropist with decades of experience in corporate America. I own Luxury Guilt, a women’s and kids’ boutique, leveraging my extensive background in retail and wholesale to create a successful business. I’ve written six novels, including the best-selling series “The Dirty Divorce” under the pen name Miss KP.
My journey into entrepreneurship and writing was fueled by a leap of faith, leaving a stable career to fully pursue my passions. What sets me apart from other entrepreneurs is that this has always been a passion for me, not just a trend. My previous experience in corporate America has allowed me to translate those skills into successful entrepreneurship. My brand stands out for its dedication to excellence, selflessness, and the relentless pursuit of dreams. I’m proud of my ability to balance entrepreneurship with authorship and aim to inspire others through my work.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I learned a lot about service during my nearly two decades working for Nordstrom. I strive to provide personalized service and make every customer feel special, regardless of how much they spend. In my role as a best-selling author, I make an effort to respond to my readers and keep an open line of communication, making them feel valued as well. My customers’ needs and opinions matter deeply to me because I want them to keep coming back and to be pleased with the services I offer.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During my career in corporate America, I suffered from an ischemic stroke due to stress, which was an incredibly challenging period for me. I was the glue that held my household together, so being unable to function at 100% was daunting. Learning to read, walk, and perform everyday tasks again was both challenging and scary. The support I expected from my partner wasn’t there, straining our relationship. Despite this, I never questioned God; I remained prayerful and kept my faith strong.
Upon returning to work, I faced the challenge of not having the same career opportunities because management doubted my capabilities due to my health circumstances. This lack of faith made me more determined to prove myself. I worked harder and stood up for myself, ultimately becoming even more successful. Through this, I learned a crucial lesson: my job could always replace me, but my family could not.
These experiences led me to reevaluate my priorities, putting myself first because if I wasn’t whole, I couldn’t be the mother my children needed. This journey shaped me into the woman I am today, teaching me that no matter how tough challenges may seem, God has a plan for our lives.
