We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kisha Edmunds a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Myself.
Although, the work will never stop because when we chose ourselves; we are forever in progress.
The majority of my life, I put the needs of everyone around me first and most of that time I believed that was honorable. I was raised in a neglectful and abusive environment where the needs of my abusers, being my birth mother and stepfather were put first. It wasn’t until I experienced a traumatic premature delivery of my 4th child, a daughter in 2019, when the illusion began to fade. Being by her side opened my eyes to what the love for a daughter from a mother was. It also showed me what it was not.
This shattered my facade of the life I had lived from that point on and I have since been receiving intense therapy such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) from a trauma based therapist that I trust. Rebuilding myself from the inside out has been the scariest but most fulfilling project that I have been blessed to be made Foreman of.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an Educator, Content Creator and Motivational Speaker with a passion for helping families and individuals overcoming generational trauma.
I create impactful videos on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, under my platform Kisha’s Legacy.
I am also an Author, September of 2024, my book Scenes From A Single Mother Volume 7 was published in September 2024. Cultivating what I will call a truly inspirational read for everyone. You get to meet 7 mothers with different stories with, different lives, but who all came together to do the work to heal our wounds and speak our truth. In my story, I take you with me through one of the most heart, wrenching experiences that led up to the creation of my platform.
I further expanded my reach as an Advocate for Sexual Abuse Victims and Families, working with the Office of Victim Advocacy in Pennsylvania as a trained Motivational/ Educational Speaker.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn is that just because someone needs help doesn’t mean they truly wanted in my desire to be of service and make a difference. I’ve learned that not everyone who says they want help is ready or willing to do the work needed for meaningful change.
This was a tough realization, especially when you are aware of the traumatic background and how it’s affecting them in their lives, but it taught me to give what I can without overextending myself. Ultimately, I’ve come to understand that people have to take their own steps towards growth and my role is to be a support to them when they are.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely, my creative journey is driven by all the past versions of myself who needed hope and guidance. I share my story to show others that it is possible to endure something deeply damaging and still take the necessary steps toward healing, even when those steps feel overwhelming or scary. My goal is to be an example that says, “Yes it’s possible. Yes it’s scary. But yes you can do it.” And it doesn’t matter how long it takes to reach that place of healing. What matters is that you get there.
Through my work I strive to demonstrate what life can be like — what life will be like — once you face the pain, resolve it, and choose to let go of the weight of past experiences.
