We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kirti Tewani a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kirti, thanks for joining us today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
After a fourteen-year journey in the world of makeup and skincare, it was time for me to shift my focus onto the connection of external beauty with the internal. My shift in approach led me to realize that healthy skin comes from factors like diet, lifestyle, products, and environment. Imbalances in those sectors could lead to various skin issues.
This journey of self-exploration opened the doors to Ayurveda, of which I still consider myself a student. When my hair prematurely grew grey — even after using the best, most expensive products — I knew I needed to rely on much more than a wealth of products and fine-tune my approach. Ayurveda gave me the power to understand that homeostasis, not beauty regimens backed by corporations, is the key to healthy living.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up in an Indian family, I learned early on that home remedies were often the first line of defense for minor ailments. My mother’s home cooking and use of spices and herbs in her recipes contributed to my overall good health, and I only saw the doctor once a year for routine check-ups.
As I matured, I became more physically fit through activities like running marathons and practicing yoga and meditation. But it wasn’t until I became a mother that I began to understand the true meaning of wellness and the importance of preventative measures.
My mother’s adoption of Ayurveda and yoga over a decade ago, and the drastic reduction in her medicine cabinet, reinforced my belief in alternative wellness practices. When I had questions, I would turn to her for guidance. Inspired by her positive impact on others, I decided to make a career out of my passion for Ayurveda and started a supplement business.
I used social media as a way to reach a wider audience and share my knowledge of Ayurveda. The responses I received from people who had found relief from various health issues through small lifestyle changes fueled my desire to spread the word even further. This led to the creation of bettergreenhealth, a platform for sharing my knowledge of Ayurveda and making it more accessible to others. The joy I receive from the emails I get from people who have benefited from these practices is immeasurable.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
In 2022, I sought a business partner who brought different skills to the table but shared my values. I had discussions with various agencies, individuals, and marketing experts, but the right fit didn’t seem to present itself. Then, toward the end of the year, my husband mentioned a friend from a former workplace who was interested in supporting the growth of bettergreenhealth. Although familiar with the name, I had never personally met or spoken to this individual. Nonetheless, I decided to have a conversation, and it felt like the right fit.
So I offered him a partnership with his expertise as our values were aligned, our goals were in sync, and our mutual understanding, respect, and trust continued to grow. And now, we are working on revamping the site and relaunching bettergreenhealth with the same values and mission and a more robust vision.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, and I often wish I had started this sooner.
