Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kirsten Trout. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kirsten, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
When my husband and I moved into an Rv, it was so we could save money while we shopped around for a house. We were going to be new to town, and wanted to get to know the city and our favorite spots first before jumping into such a big loan. Not long after my mom got sick, I had to drive 12-15 hrs every other week to take care of her. My husband and I went down to 1 income while I was on FMLA. At the end of Feb 2020 she passed and soon after the country shut down. A lot of people lost their jobs, my husband included. I’m a tech in the medical field so my job was safe and we still had income, mine. Sadly, we had a lot of friends and family that had to move in with other family members, or get roommates because they couldn’t afford to live alone anymore. Luckily for us though, we were still living in an Rv. Originally it was suppose to be just for a year while we house hunted but we fell in love with the lifestyle and realized how much we were beating the cost of living, so we continued to do it. I’m so happy that we did because we had no idea what trials were about to come our way. We were fine both times going down to 1 income because of fifth wheel living and I am forever grateful and happy to share all of my tips and tricks so others can do the same!

Kirsten, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I originally got into promoting our lifestyle just for fun and to document our journey. I had no idea it would ever get big or be able to help people. I always hoped for the best but didn’t get my hopes up. All I can say is, if you’re trying to grow on social media and get your story out there. Post that content! Don’t be scared, post it. Share your story, what you love, things you’re passionate about and your people will find you. 🫶🏼

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Stay genuine and stick to what you love. If you do that, it won’t ever feel like work.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I thought because I was a seasoned RVer that I could buy new and would know if it’s a good build based on my experience alone. I learned quickly after owning the Rv that it was in fact not a good build. RVs old or new will have problems no matter what. The difference is when you’re looking at used, you can tell if the previous owner went through anything based on its condition. New, nothing was tested yet. You will be the first to find out by experience if it’s a good build.
