We recently connected with Kirsten Bradley and have shared our conversation below.
Kirsten, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
I have no problem asking friends and family to support my business. A lot of them do it on their own, which I greatly appreciate! Obviously purchasing items from me is the best support but even a simple share of my social media posts or a recommendation to someone looking for cookies and/or cakes. That is the best support to me!

Kirsten, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kirsten Bradley and I am the owner of Be Our Guest Sweets! I have dabbled in cookies for about 3 years now but I started taking my business seriously about a year ago. I make custom luxury sugar cookies and cakes/cupcakes. I create a product that is unique and personalised to whatever the occasion is along with being something you can’t just go to the store and purchase. I am so proud of my business and the product I am able to create. I love being creative and making someones day when they pick up their order. The biggest thing I want people to know about is how much love and care I put into every order! I treat it as if it is for my own event. Also, my products are literal works of art but they also taste amazing, I think that is a common misconception with these type of cookies. They are seen as hard and do not taste good, my product is the exact opposite and I take great pride in that.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me is 100% from word of mouth recommendations from prior customers. I love and appreciate every single client that I am able to serve but it is really something special when I am able to bake for someone because I was recommending by someone or they had one of my products at an event.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I have had to unlearn and honestly still fall victim to at times is procrastination! I always think I have more time than I do or put it off because I would rather do something else. I usually work in the evenings when my kids go to bed so when I procrastinate, I end up having to stay up until the wee hours of the morning to make sure I get everything done. I also work full-time so it becomes a problem. People never realize the amount of time that goes into making these little works of art. So I am actively working on it because it is not a good trait.
