Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kirsten Beltran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kirsten, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I am truly blessed to work with so many brides. Each weekend a bride has chosen to trust me to style their hair and makeup for the best day of their life. I work with brides that often have never even had their makeup done before which requires so much trust and communication. I find each wedding to be meaningful. I love helping women to see how beautiful they are. As a teen I grew up with acne prone skin and suffered all through my college years with red and broken out skin. Makeup is what really made me feel like I could make my skin look beautiful. So I know first hand what it is like to loose confidence in yourself without makeup. As for hair I feel so special when girls are shocked that the magic I can create with their hair. It feels like such an honor to be trusted with these details of a wedding day!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up as a second generation cosmetologist. My mom gave me huge 80’s bangs for my laser backdrop school photos and loved to put blush and lipstick on me from a young age. When I got into high school there was the opportunity to apply to get into cosmetology trade school. Only 60 girls get in from multiple high schools and I was in! In my small town we finally got an Ulta to open and I was lucky enough to work there to help build the store. I fell into the bridal industry from friends trusting me on their big day. And with the help of word of mouth and social media have continued to stay booked all year!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I love to listen to audio books while I am driving on site to events. There are also tons of great podcast to help learn more on marketing and social media. The Goal Digger podcast really helped me feel that I am an entrepreneur and need to take on creating my own brand. Jenna Kutcher gives so much great advice through the podcast that you can start to apply right away. For books I love a comeback story or rising from the bottom to the top to motivate me. You are a badass and atomic habits are a few that I really felt empowered after listening to. And think like a monk from Jay Shetty is one I love to read chapter by chapter and absorb.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think the best way to support other artist is to refer a great vendor to everyone. You would be shocked by how many clients I book because a past bride or bridesmaid simply passed my name along for being on time, organized and doing a great job. Another simple way to support artist is to respect their worth. If someone is out of your budget find someone that fits in your budget. Asking artist if the fee that was quoted is correct is a daily task I had to explain how pricing works. Reading over pricing prior to reaching out and really reading over all the details on a vendors website will help.
