We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kirschen Wolford . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kirschen below.
Kirschen , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
So I began my solo music career around 2016 when my sister passed to kidney failure. I took a hiatus from any type of creative art and spent time recovering with family. Once resilience was exercised, I began working on my project Trauma Tapes and the rest was history. After it was released, a myriad of opportunities came my way. From there, I started booking live shows throughout the city of Dallas and Arlington. I also released Trauma Tapes 2 and 3 along with visuals to support the songs as my momentum progressed. Before I knew it, I landed a spot on the Community Artist Program roster sponsored by the city of Dallas office of arts and culture.
Kirschen , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kirschen ‘TeX’ Wolford and I’m originally from Dallas,TX. I began taking my craft seriously when I entered Booker T. Washington HSPA. There my focus was theatre arts. After graduating, I moved to Philadelphia majoring in acting at the University of the Arts receiving my bachelor’s degree. While living in such an artistic city, I began coupling music with my theatre background. This is when I really started to transform into a more dynamic artist. When my baby sister passed away, I became extremely focused by rebranding myself becoming more strategic with my business. Currently, I provide live music performance and songwriting workshops throughout the city of Dallas through the CAP roster that I mentioned earlier. In addition, I’m working on my newest series that will be another trilogy entitled Nita’s Baby Boi EP. I just released the single on March 18th. https://tex-three.bandcamp.com/track/how-it-goes-ft-jazzmeia-horn
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part about being an artist to me is impact and influence I have in the youth. Being able to offer guidance through different art forms is priceless.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Well once I moved back to Dallas from Philadelphia, it was total reset. I didn’t engage in the arts at all due to recovering from life’s trials and tribulations. Then when I did finally started to re-insert myself in the the scene, I was still timid and fragile. However, it was in these moments where my faith in God was tested the most. This is where my entire life shifted. The music aspect moved to the forefront and I created the project called Trauma Tapes that I mentioned before. More opportunities and blessings began to flow from places I couldn’t fathom. During this season, it taught the power of resilience.
