We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kire Torres. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kire below.
Kire, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Hi! Thank you for having me here, it’s a pleasure to have this conversation with you. My main mission extends beyond personal fulfillment; it’s about making a tangible difference in the world. By working in this art industry that I love, collaborating with artists from diverse backgrounds & countries, and learning from their unique perspectives, I believe we can collectively contribute to a more colorful and inclusive world. Art has the power to transcend language and cultural barriers, to evoke emotion and provoke thought, and I am committed to harnessing that power for positive change.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Thank you for the opportunity to share more about myself and my journey in the creative industry. My name is Kire Torres, and I’m an illustrator from Peru, deeply rooted in my indigenous heritage. From an early age, I found solace and inspiration in art, and as I grew, so did my passion for visual storytelling! My entrance into the industry was guided by my dual skill in graphic design and illustration. This unique combination opened doors for me across various sectors, including tv animation, toys, and consumer products. I provide a wide range of visual communication solutions to my clients, from TV series, to board games, flyers, publicity ads, tea labels, beer cans, and many others. Whether it’s bringing characters to life on the screen or designing captivating packaging for consumer goods, my goal is to create immersive experiences that resonate with the audiences.
One project that holds particular significance and pride for me is my work with ASESBIH PERU, The Association of Espina Bífida and Hidrocefalia of Perú. ASESBIH is a non-profit organisation for people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Using my skills in design, I created flyers and banners that helped support their efforts in raising charity funds, organizing conferences, raising medical awareness of this condition, engaging with financial supporters, promoting inclusivity, and equality for people with disabilities. It’s projects like these that remind me of the power of art to make a positive impact on society and the importance of supporting a mission you believe in. Be the change you want to see in the world!
Looking ahead, I’m excited about the future of animation projects coming my way and the opportunity to connect with fellow artists. My peers and clients have been invaluable partners on this journey, and I’m grateful for their support and camaraderie. Through my work I’m not just creating art; I’m crafting experiences that resonate, inspire, and leave a lasting impression. Whether you’re seeking innovative visuals for your next project or simply looking to connect with a passionate creative, I’m excited to meet you and make magic happen!

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Drawing from my experience as a lead artist and manager of a small team of artists, I’ve found several strategies effective in managing a team and maintaining high morale, my top 3 are:
First is to maintain a “Positive attitude and promote respect amongst peers!”. Your team will turn to you for guidance and inspiration, so setting a high standard and a positive attitude can most certainly influence their performance. Also, respecting my team’s time, as well as their downtime for self-care and well-being will help create a balanced work environment. Also, this action can prevent burnout as well as enhancing the overall morale of my team.
Second is “Clear and Effective communication!”. Effective communication builds trust and transparency within the team. To avoid any confusion, you have to clearly articulate the project’s objectives, expectations, and deadlines. Also encourage an open dialogue that makes the team members feel comfortable about voicing their own opinions and concerns about the project. This helps address any conflicts, concerns, or issues within the team promptly and constructively!
Third is to “Recognize and Appreciate”. I learnt that proactively and consistently acknowledging and appreciating the hard work, and contributions of your team members can help boost a healthy work environment. Feeling valued and appreciated can significantly impact morale, job satisfaction and efficiency.
In summary, managing a team and maintaining high morale requires a combination of positive attitude, respect, clear communication, and recognition of effort.
By implementing these strategies, you can create a positive and productive work environment where your team members feel motivated, engaged, and valued!
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
As a creative professional, my view on NFTs is one of both marvel and caution. I’m marveled at the technology behind NFTs because it opens a new, modern venue for artists to showcase and monetize their work in the digital realm, with proven authorship and provenance, which is a rarity in modern days! I’m also very optimistic about the decentralized nature of NFTs , it holds the promise of potentially democratizing the access to the art market and engagement with high paying collectors and fans.
However, I’m deeply concerned about the environmental impact of NFTs. The method of minting NFTs using blockchain technology uses a lot of energy, with each transaction consuming as much electricity as a U.S. household does in about 47 days. Additionally, the rapid rise of NFTs has led to other questions such as their long-term sustainability and the art market price speculation (by artificially inflating art prices).
As an artist, I believe it’s crucial to approach NFTs with an open mind. While they offer numerous and incredible benefits and a novel way to sell and promote art, there are legitimate concerns that could be addressed.
