Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kira Stuger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kira, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What it takes to be successful is having the confidence and belief that you really can be. It is also very imperative that one surrounds themselves with confident , risk taking individuals that do not hesitate to say “yes” when a great opportunity is presented to them. In my industry as a freelance hairstylist, I had to learn not to stand in my way if and when I am asked to style hair for television , photos shoots as well as taking on a celebrity client. I had to remember that if and when I am referred to do hair for special gigs , I had to know that I am qualified to move forward with the job. Back in 2014 , I decided to leave the hair salon and I had the chance to style hair for a celebrity for a press junket and I immediately said yes and there were great gigs after that breakthrough of just saying YES. As the old saying goes “NO RISK NO REWARD”
Kira, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
for those that may not have read about me I go by the name of Kira Stuger and I am a Freelance Hairstylist based in New York and how became part of the Industry was working with the right people in that working like crazy and the next thing you know I was referred to work on photo shoots and within those sessions on networked a little bit more and started showcasing my work to different Hair And Make Up Agency‘s having the great opportunity to assist Hairstylist that we’re on their roster . With learning different skills within those photo sessions, I had the opportunity to work with teams during New York fashion week. With that experience it allowed me to also that work with artists that work for film and television and I was referred to work on several shows and films. That experience will always be priceless to me because the key component is networking
When it comes to taking care of clients whether it is personal clients, clients of a particular brand for photo shoot or even if the client is the Director, it’s really important to make sure that the hairstyle is exactly what that individual wants as well as making sure that the services are provided on time and what makes me proud is when the clients are happy I am happy and the wonderful thing is that I will be asked again to provide the service.
What I really want potential clients to know about me is that when it comes to being a Hairstylist, it is all about providing a service and making sure that the individual is comfortable and trust me with their hair an understanding that it is about the individual and it’s never about me.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In the past I used to work in New Jersey and when I decided that I wanted to work in New York , I used the list of Hair and Makeup Hair And Make Up Agency’s that my friend imparted to me , and I made it my business to go to New York once a week and pass my résumé to at least eight agencies. Eventually I expanded that search and went to salons as well as modeling agencies. From time to time I did receive a lot “no’s” , but I persevered. It was a years time that I frequented eight places of businesses every Monday or every Tuesday and I was just about to give up until I received a phone call to see if I was available to work at a salon in New York City on fifth Avenue and I “yes” . I had a great experience and I worked with wonderful talented artists and I also had the grand opportunity to work backstage for fashion week when it was based in Bryant Park New York City and that is something that I will always remember because I did not give up.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In the past I work in hair salons and I believe that working in a salon is a great foundation and I have done that for 18 years. I wanted to evolve from that and just focus on becoming a Freelance hairstylist. With making that decision, I was able to expand my capacity and work in different spaces such as studios for photo shoots, film studios for movies and television series , and also working with amazing talented artists from all walks of life, making that decision was a great pivotal point in my life and career because I’m able to bear witness of other artist expanding their capacity and it inspires me to keep evolving and moving forward .
