Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kira Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kira, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
When I became a Learning Leader at my Alma Mater “Paul Mitchell The School- Nashville”, I had no clue the live that I was going to touch and impact. I had three classes, but my most recent group was the group that touched my heart the most. I had only known them a few months and we deep dived into skincare education pretty quickly to get them caught up and satisfied with the school curriculum. We shared many laughs, heartfelt conversations and I looked forward to seeing them on a daily basis. Towards the end of my season with them, we threw a party to celebrate their advancement in their education. They were moving on from me to a new level of skincare knowledge and soon would have a new teacher. They surprised me with a big party and surrounded me with gifts and showered me with love and told me how much I had impacted their lives with my presence and efforts as their teacher. At that moment, I realized that without even intentionally trying to go over and beyond, I had. I had impacted lives and had others looking up to me for more. I didn’t realize how I looked in peoples eyes, and that moment made me feel the love that I had been missing for so long. I realized that with simply doing my due diligence not only helped others, but the extra time I put in being attentive to ones need touched peoples hearts. The result was that they showered me with theirs. I cried big tears as I brought my gifts into my home that day. I cried a very long time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Im an Aesthetician, Business Owner and Integrative Nutritionist. My focus is on creating integrative skincare solutions for women with a focus on correcting pigment issues for women of color.
My passion stems from my drive in finding solutions to problems. I battled with hormonal acne for a long time, and since understanding that my issues were rooted in my diet, I became intrigued with how the body impacts the skin.
My education advanced once I applied continued educational resources that could help me create results without working in a medical setting. This is how/why I became an Integrative Nutritionist.
I can create results by helping my clients overcome the inflammation in the body through consultation, advisement and diet changes. We also do a lot of detoxifying and hormonal balancing with the help of other health professionals.
Since I had all of this information to share, I decided to teach, and that lead me back to Paul Mitchell. After awhile of that, I partnered with MassageLuxe Spa here in Nashville and brought my talents to a wider audience. Ive advanced in my skillset by being challenged with many different skincare concerns from diverse groups and its helped me become an even better skincare advisor.
Ive been blessed with the opportunity to get some of my student and friends also hired at the spa so they too can advance in their skillset and career.
Im in the process of taking my talents to yet another level so that I can reach millions with my research and so I can continue to pave the way for others. Every client that I meet is a divine appointment in my eyes, and I have either an hour or a lifetime to impact their lives in anyway that I can. I don’t care for the world to know my name, I strive to make sure that the lives I’m lead to met know what love, help and achievement feels like. That’s why I do what I do.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Honestly. Im very transparent and I like to give my clients the choice to choose what they want me to do. I tell them the level of success we’ll achieve together based on the service choice and treatment plan and so forth. I let them choose, I let them learn and I let them decide how they want to reach their skincare goals.
The truth always builds loyalty and trust, and that’s how Ive been able to reach goals in Esthetics, whether it be a full schedule, sales quotes and so forth. Those things are beneficial, but I just try to continue to be myself and stay solid in my client consultations before and after my services.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I finished Esthetics school, I was working out of my home. It was very hard, because I had no clue what all I was doing, but I was good at it! haha
It gave me an understanding of what part of Esthetics made my heart beat and what didn’t. I decided at one point to quit my job, and work for Doordash delivering food so that I can have the freedom to build my business. I stayed out late, but I made the money I needed “daily” to invest in my dreams without having to be sacrifice my time. I took that time I had alone, to think, plan, budget and so forth, I funded my business alone, got my first individual suite and outgrew that in 6 months. I gained another suite with more space and outgrew that in another 6 months and got too busy to work alone. I needed some help. I decided to take a break from working solo to sharpen my research skills and went to teach, because I started to see that I needed more focus on how to expedite my skincare treatments for my clients. So I needed a break to learn a bit more.
I started to get hungry and wanted more knowledge. I started feeling like a genius haha
I then decided to walk away from being a solo esti and moved my career to a wider audience and that’s how I landed at MassageLuxe Spa. This allowed me to move my clients from one space to a more advanced setting where I could offer them services that I didn’t working alone.
I took so many chances on myself and my career advanced with every step! The financial gain is still mind-blowing to me but the clients I have I can’t even count. Like…wow this is my Career. I found it! Im doing it! Im growing up!
