We recently connected with Kira Lise and have shared our conversation below.
Kira, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I’m so happy being a creative working as a musician, while live-streaming on the internet. For the last year, I’ve been dedicated to being a livestreamer full-time, and it’s so different that any job I’ve ever had. While I’m making more income, I work less hours, and I’m doing what I want to do creatively. I earned a degree this past May, and I always worried about what kind of occupation I would have after receiving it. Now I feel I may not need to use my degree for quite some time. I’d way rather be doing what I’m doing now than anything else.

Kira, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kira Lise, I’m an independent, free-lance musician, songwriter and live-streamer. A lot of people know me for live-streaming on TikTok Live. I take song requests on my live-streams for anyone viewing, and I normally stream anywhere from 3-5 hours a stream, sometimes longer. I think I bring people a sense of peace watching my streams. Many viewers stay for the entire duration of my performances online. I also am a solo artist working on my own original music. I think what sets me apart from others is my uniqueness or trueness to myself and my values. I never want to become something that I’m not. I’m really proud of building myself and my brand on my own without any real help. I was able to get this far on my own efforts, and I think that’s really important.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Really anything. Go to live shows, buy an artist’s record. If you see a musician busking on the street, give them a $5 or a tip in their virtual tip jar. It’s important these days to remember that artists are just trying to support themselves enough to pursue their passion. For a long time, I was working long hours only to pay for my music sessions. Support artists by listening to their music and always tip them. Entertainment is a large part of our ecosystem, and those entertainers deserve to be paid.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I pivoted career paths once I dove in head first into live-streaming. I realized more opportunities existed there than in anything else. So I quit my previous barista job and dedicated all of my time to that, and it was the right decision. It brought me way more fulfillment. While I was juggling school I was still streaming most days. It was scary not having a real job at first, but after a while, the rewards really showed.
