Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kiolli Sydnor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kiolli, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it takes patience, determination, motivation, diligence and never stop practicing! Practice doesn’t make perfect…it makes progress!
Kiolli, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kiolli and I am the owner of Golden Rootz LLC. I started in the beauty industry at the early age of 11 and been at it for about 21 years. I began specializing in natural hair back in 2010 when it started to come trendy. From then, I started growing my clientele in the natural hair community, targeting clients who needed assistance with hair care routines, maintenance, and sometimes a slight confidence booster! I specialize in braids, twists, protective styles, monthly maintenance and recently adding microlocs to the list of services. What sets me apart from other stylists other than my talent is my aura. I believe energies must align so I look forward to building a relationship with each client that I meet, by being loving, empathetic, humorous and creating a safe space that is much needed after a long day. I’m most proud of managing a successful business for the last 3 years, working effortlessly to ensure that the business runs smoothly and it showed in my productivity. Two main things I want my potential clients to know is: 1. Although I don’t consider myself a perfectionist, I take pride in my craft. 2. I appreciate you more than you know by trusting me as your stylist and without your support, rather it’s scheduling an appointment, giving out cards, referring friends and family wouldn’t be as prominent as it is today.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy for growing my business would be having my clients as a walking billboard. As Arizona population continues to grow, many people are looking for businesses to support and services to be rendered. What better way to showcase your work on a client that’s walking thru the mall, grocery store, airport, passing out your cards to strangers and sharing your posts to everyone they know. That by far is the BEST strategy yet!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I think about this often, and realizing just how daring I was. At the time, hair was a side hustle for me and once I decided to go full time with it I had the most insane idea. I ran a box braid special for $100 with the goal of at least 10 people. Out of no where my special spread like wildfire and I ended up scheduling 21 clients over 2 weeks. Soon after that, Golden Rootz was founded and operating full time.
