We recently connected with Kiok Kang and have shared our conversation below.
Kiok, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
When I left corporate to launch Glowing PR Agency, I intentionally set out to create a safe environment that bolstered creative and strategic energy. Additionally, I wanted each client to feel as though we were an in-house PR/influencer department — paying attention to detail, prioritizing each and every client to the fullest degree, appointing the right manager to their brand, and of course, securing glowing results. We’ve been a fully referral-based business and that’s the most glowing compliment I can receive as a business owner and team manager.
Now, as I shift my focus to overall wellness, my hope is to share tips on how to live a fulfilling life: feeling, living, and moving well. I’ve recently become Level 2 certified for Lagree Fitness, which is a high-intensity, low-impact workout that focuses on core, strength, and muscular endurance thanks to my trainer, Maggie O’Brien.
I have always led an active and disciplined life, having trained to play piano for Julliard for over 10 years and running varsity cross-country in high school. However, I always felt distracted and not fully “in-the-zone” in group classes until I discovered Lagree seven years ago. The mind/body connection and focus required to power through a Lagree class are incomparable.
My mission has evolved and become more holistic – I’ve expanded from solely focusing on beauty, to now covering wellness, self-care, fitness, and nutritional cooking (regularly shared on my Instagram) in addition to beauty. The goal is still the same — to feel beautiful, glow from the inside out, and walk with confidence!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I created GLOWING PR because I wanted to step away from the cookie cutter PR agency mold; I wanted to create new rules in the beauty, lifestyle, and fashion industry. I value my network of press and know that my strong relationships will create the right buzz my clients need for their brands. I’m very precise in building my team making sure each client is getting the best service while ensuring they get the desired results for their campaigns based on our kick-ass strategies.
GLOWING PR was formed to help brands bloom to their full potential while still giving that personal touch of a boutique agency. We’re young and scrappy, which means we’ll find creative ways to stretch your budget and create a viral buzz around your brand by tapping into our distinguished network of contacts. We’re results-driven, so step aside and let us handle your next launch.
We’re all about relationships – with our clients, our network of contacts, and our internal team – all of which work hand-in-hand to build the ultimate brand awareness for your brand.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
We constantly stay in communication with our clients from surveilling news outlets daily, noting social media trends, upcoming holiday initiatives and product tie-ins to scheduling weekly or bi-monthly calls. Each client has their own needs and personality, so we’re completely amenable to them. Especially with the current social climate, we guide our clients to take stances on matters they value, while staying ahead of the curve on trends to ensure they’re constantly top-of-mind for their community.
Additionally, every month we send status reports that detail all our efforts & wins with impressions, so our clients can quantify the value of digital PR and influencer outreach. We always strive to be relevant, engaging, and validated by the brand consumers and media.
Any advice for managing a team?
I’m so proud of the team we’ve built and how we manage to work together in a creative, intentional way. Emerging from COVID, we’ve mainly worked remotely and this impacted the way we communicate and prioritize tasks. I like to conduct weekly/monthly check-ins with our team asking what could be different, how I can improve, and what we’ve learned.
My main priority in managing a team is to ensure they feel valued and heard. Additionally, my team can rest assured I have their back and will always be supporting their decisions. It’s not just about being great at your current role, but also creating an environment that encourages them to continually grow as well as feel trusted and respected.
