Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kinsey O’Leary. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kinsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
I had many jobs and “careers” before I became a sound healer and business owner. My education in biochemistry showed me how to teach myself anything I want to know. My previous job as a biomarker analyst taught me how to use excel spreadsheets and the importance of organization. My gig as a front desk admin taught me the professional communication skills that I use every day. Working for another small, women owned, start-up taught me marketing, sales, and the power of pricing. It turns out that all of these seemingly unrelated and random jobs instilled in me the exact skills I would need to open and run my own business. Everything happens in divine timing!
Kinsey , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As the owner of The Sound Space, I host crystal alchemy sound baths and sound healing experiences for listeners to enter deep states of meditation and rest. I sell crystal singing bowls and am a distributor for Crystal Tones in the San Diego area.
I always felt an innate connection between art, science and spirituality. I received my B.S. Biochemistry & Cell Biology from UC San Diego and knew I wanted to merge the science I was practicing in my lab with the lived experience of being human. I was practicing mindfulness meditation in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh for many years and wanted to share these practices with the world without losing my love of math and science. I was fortunate enough to find sound healing, which is a perfect bridge for science and spirituality.
The sound frequencies produced by the singing bowls are used to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and allow listeners to enter a state of rest and restoration. The alchemy bowls harmonize together to create organic binaural beats which assist listeners in entering the alpha and theta brainwave states. In this way, sound baths allow listeners to let go of stress, enter a deep meditative state and create an internal environment of healing and regeneration in the body. Generally, students experience sustained relaxation and mindfulness after a sound bath.
The crystal alchemy singing bowls are unlike any other instrument! I often say they are one-part musical instrument, one-part fine art, and one-part healing tool. These bowls are made of 99.992% pure quartz (ethically sourced from the USA) combined with a variety of gemstones, precious metals and earth minerals. Each bowl is completely unique! The sound created from these bowls is an incredible tool for healing.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are many resources available to female entrepreneurs nowadays, you just need to look! I received so much guidance from The San Diego Women’s Business Center and The Hera Hub. Recently, Million Dollar Habits by Brain Tracy has been a game changer in my entrepreneurial thinking. I now recommend it to every business owner I know!
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being authentic! Of course it’s important to attract your ideal clients, but it is also important to “repel” people who aren’t the right fit for you and your services. When you bring YOU into your business, that authenticity is felt though every action your business takes. You can’t copy and paste someone else’s path into your own life or business, so don’t bother trying.
