We recently connected with Kinna Lindahl and have shared our conversation below.
Kinna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I was working as a set dresser and prop stylist, which I loved, but as a mom it became difficult to work long hours, and a lot of times on location. I had taken some interior design courses in the past and always watched home remodeling shows. As I started to think about home staging, I noticed a lot of listings online weren’t staged.and I decided to start my own home staging business. I’m able to set my own hours for the most part and I help sellers get the highest return on investment.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m originally from Sweden and came to Los Angeles to study film. I worked in the film industry for a long time, in art department and as an actress. I also worked as a prop stylist for Bon Appetit magazine. After starting a family I started transitioning into home staging. I still do prop styling sometimes, as well. As a home stager I focus on occupied homes. I work with the realtor and seller to modernize and showcase their home. I love working with people and help guide them through a usually stressful time in their lives . If possible I will use most of what the seller owns in form of larger furniture pieces and swap out accessories in order to appeal to a wide demographic. You can make some eye popping transformations just by changing the layout of the room, decluttering and bringing in some new accessories and greenery. Sometimes when a home owner is willing to do the work themselves and want to keep the cost down, a thorough consultation might be all that’s needed. Every situation is different and i will work with the seller to provide the best service for them. It’s hard work, but very rewarding!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is so important when you own your business. I mostly utilize Instagram for posting jobs and growing an audience. I have gotten some of my clients through both Instagram and Pinterest Make sure you link to social media platforms on your website, and vice versa.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I love the books Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy. Rereading passages from those books have helped me numerous times when I’ve questioned myself. I also took an invaluable certification course in home staging, Home Staging Resource, which has helped with setting my business model and attracting the right clients.
