We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful King Larmie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with King below.
Hi King, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Firstly, as people, we would need to define what success means to us personally before looking to achieve it in any way possible. Specificity in defining individual success I do not believe is always necessary but I would like to think that it is difficult for a person to capture success for themselves when they’re not sure of what it means for them regarding their interest, hobbies, enjoyments, and more. This is something pivotal in creating success that I think we as people tend to forget sometimes.
King, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is King and I am a creative. I have such a deep appreciation for creative expression as I enjoy the continuities of creative writing, photography, graphic design, sculpting, and so much more. I am a current undergraduate student at the Dougherty Family College which is an affordable 2-year liberal arts program offered by the University of St. Thomas. As much as I enjoy the boundlessness of my creative expression, I’ve currently dedicated the majority of my attention to my studies. Although, within my scholarly focus, I’ve noticed my creativity has found a way to implement itself in the ways that I learn as well as my efforts in my coursework. This has only made being in college so much more enjoyable.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I honestly just want to help others in any way that I possibly can with my creative expression. My goal in a lot of the work that I do and still want to continue to pursue connects to my own personal struggles with being a minority. There are a lot of negatives that come with being both black and queer but I can say that because of my own personal experiences, I am able to appreciate people for who they are as well as empathize with their experiences in my own way. Regardless of how I view experiences I can gratefully say that because of them it fuels my passion for working with and for people. In any way that my creativity can be used as a way to relate to someone else, I want to apply it.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Authenticity is something that I never take for granted in my craft and my publicity. I always want people to know that the way I present myself publicly is just a glimpse of the person I am in my most personal and private moments. Although it is hard to let people in sometimes, it’s rarely hard to just be yourself and I like to honor that even in something as simple as a first impression.
